Hello Boys n girls :)

I've just finished (short of the RAM) building my new gaming rig with specs as follows:

CPU: i7 3930K + H100

Motherboard: ASUS Rampage IV EXTREME

PSU: Antec HCP 1200W

HDD: 240GB OCZ Vertex 3

GFX Card: GTX580 Lightning Extreme (upgrading to a 7970 end of March)

(I think those are all the important goodies)

Anyway...I'm now looking for RAM to match the rest of my system and I've been considering buying the 'Corsair Vengeance 4x8GB DDR3-1866 1.5v CL10' kit.

Before I go and forkout silly money on RAM, I was wondering if anyone could tell me if this is the best 32GB kit you can get?

I know 32GB may be considered overkill and I'd be open to really decent 16GB kits instead, but if this is going to be the case, I'd like to know if there are any decent 2x8GB kits (if there is something better than the kit mentioned above)...with the option to go up to 32GB at a later stage. - I have no other reason for this than "just 'cause" :p

I know there are faster kits out there (over 2000Mhz) and all I really want to know is 'what is the best RAM you can buy for an LGA 2011 system?' I'm not TOO fussed about price, as long as someone doesnt come back and recommend some 'Secret Circle' magic RAM that costs R20k :p

Thanks in advance! :)

You know I'm always on skype right? Coulda just asked me there :p

Also remember, X79 runs in a quad channel RAM configuration, so it's worthwhile getting 4 sticks of ram.

16gb :
G.Skill F3-14900CL9Q-16GBZL RipJawsZ 4x4GB DDR3 1866Mhz 1.5V XMP X79 Ready Desktop Memory - Wootware

32gb :
G.Skill F3-14900CL9Q2-32GBZL RipJawsZ 8x4GB DDR3 1866Mhz 1.5V XMP X79 Ready Desktop Memory - Wootware

Seeing as you are spending that money, here's my recommendation :

G.Skill F3-17000CL11Q2-32GBZL RipJawsZ 8x4GB DDR3 2133Mhz 1.6V XMP CL11 X79 Ready Desktop Memory - Wootware

Get that and it'll go nicely with your board.

Thanks dude - why is the G.Skill so cheap compared to the Corsair Vengeance though? :O

Its less than HALF the price?!

Simple, it's brought in by wootware themselves instead of being sourced locally from other more expensive suppliers.

Oh yeah...also just noticed (soz im slow) the Corsair is 4x8Gb and the G Skill is 8x4GB - does that make much difference?

8gb modules were much more expensive last time I checked. If you take them, you can always add another 32gb later...
