Hi guys,

I've stupidly overheated my gaming laptop by using it on a bed.

It's a Sager NP8180 / P180HM imported from the US, with:

18.4” Full HD 16:9 (1920x1080) LED Backlit "Glossy" Display
DUAL AMD Radeon HD 6990M 256bit w/2GB GDDR5 in CrossFireX w/300W AC Adapter
Intel® Core™ i7-2670QM (2.2~3.1GHz, 45W) w/6M L3 Cache - 4 Cores - 8 Threads
8GB (2 SODIMMS) DDR3/1333 Dual Channel Memory

Those GPUs are literally top of their era, and the CPU is no slacker either

It doesn't boot anymore, and I've tried the following troubleshooting:
  • Removed both graphics cards - still no boot
  • Removed RAM - still nothing

This leads me to believe either the motherboard or PSU is at fault, as the CPU usually runs pretty cool.
I'd try to get it running again myself, but I don't game anymore, and need something more portable.

I'll accept any decent offers for individual parts, or the whole thing. The HDD is not included.
Date of Manufacture: Feb 2012
Shipping: yes
Collections: yes
Returns: yes
Location: Observatory, Cape Town

Contact these guys. They may be able to repair the laptop for you. They are located in centurion though. A quote costs a couple hundred bucks. And in that process they fix the laptop and if you decline the quote they remove their repairs and get your busted laptop back.

Thanks for the suggestion! Are they able to source parts and cope with laptops not available here?

I appreciate the offer! For the moment, I'll see if anyone else wants to take on the task and save me the hassle.

Stupid question. Did you remove battery and use just powercord? Maybe you fried your battery..

This.

I had similar problems with previous laptops and something as silly as removing the battery, booting it off the cable and putting the battery back in fixed it. My previous Qosmio would boot but couldn't stay up longer than 3 minutes before turning off. In the end it was the battery that was shorting the laptop. How and why that happened I don't know.

Try to get it fixed first.

Hi guys! So I still haven't sold this. Because of how busy I was, this was pushed to the back of my mind...

But I'm leaving Cape Town in about 5 days (and going to joburg). Does anyone want this? I'm prepared to go low....super low, since I am obviously in a mad rush.

Initially I was keen on R6000. But I can do the whole thing for R4000, voetstoets. I'll take offers for the next 2 and pass it on to the best one.

Come at me! :D
