Preload is out - 35 GB. Plus a day 1 patch of 3.5 GB - performance improvements, DLC support etc.

What is with all these day 1 patches? There is always a large day 1 patch with almost all new AAA titles.

Day 1 patches, beta and alpha access. All ways to sell incomplete products. I get that it makes it easier to meet deadlines and in a way "test" on a larger scale, but how many AAA and/or hyped up titles were borderline broken on release. By postponing the launch date and increasing development time allows for a much more polished and usually successful game on release. CD-Red Projects postponed Witcher 3 by quite a bit and I'm sure the game is much more successful because of it.

Anyway, looking forward to Batman, looks epic!

That game was not right on day 1 either. It now at 1.06 it is a state it was supposed to have been in with version 1.0
We await 1.07 still. Having said that, the game itself it great but lacks a polish that for instance a game like Dragon Age Inquisition has. I mean in that there were no major game breaking bugs to contend with.
I paid my R450 or what not for Batman but I expect it to be broken much like Mortal Kombat X etc.
Interested if only for the visuals etc in this game. Should look very modern with all the cool DX11 features and all

I agree, still not as bad as AC: Unity or any of the later BF games though.

WTF - This game is such a mess! 30 FPS locked frame rate (have to edit ini file to unlock).
Crappy performance after unlocking - frame rate is all over the place. Lots of lags and stutters. Using latest NV drivers.
Avoid! This is a bad PC port - even more broken than MK10. Hopefully the patches come out soon.

Well... That's disappointing, especially after it was delayed for over 6 months. At least I got it free with my 980Ti

The gameplay is actually pretty good even though the game runs like crap. Gameplay is definitely better than Arkham Origins.

Seems like with most games these days one needs to wait a few weeks for them to get it from beta 2.0 to release.

I just did a refund request on Steam now, not keen on paying to grab my own ankles. Will probably buy it again later at a reduced rate when the issues are resolved.

Does anybody know how Steam / Valve operates, i.e. do they or the devs take a knock when people request refunds?

I'm tempted but know I will enjoy it more on the PC. tempted to get it on the PS4 instead. Glad I only paid 32 dollars for it.

It is the way in which games are released these days.
I have no idea how many times we need to get burned before we learn. Games are not to be bought on release day. Wait a week or two. Actually add 2 months to every release day, then you should be sorted somewhat. Most importantly never ever, pre-order a game. We are in a digital distribution age, so game copies will not run out. It's not as if one has to wait for the next shipment of boxed copies.

1. We don't have demos anymore for some reason
2. Games are releasing with season passes asking you to commit to work that has yet to be completed
3. The work that has been completed isn't well, completed at all.
4. Even if you request a refund, day 1 sales figures have already been recorded so that gets counted as a successful release. Not all regions are able to get refunds so that isn't a viable options for all customers.
5. Again, do not pre-order games.

Just saw an article that said they stopped selling the pc version of the game until they sort out all the bugs

They should have delayed the PC release to July or August.
Yes they would have had crap for pushing back the release date on PC (once again), but now they have even more crap to deal with.
Absolutely pathetic Rocksteady. Why didn't you just delay the PC release? Answer: Because you care more about the MONEY!

I love this. Wherever I go I warn people against day-one purchases, but I'm brown from all the wiping people are doing on me. This is good news to me. Good news indeed.

Actually I'm not opposed to a company caring about the money before all else. It is a business and that's it's number one purpose. It exists to make money and they should. However wanting to make money isn't mutually exclusive from making a good game, in this case a working game.
Rockstar made back all the money they had spent on GTA V development and many times more than that in 3 days, back in 2013. It took 18 months for that game to get to the PC and they had sold over 1 million copies in a week. That is a company making money hand over fist, without sacrificing the game experience. (I'm not saying the game was without issue as it was, but certainly not to this degree). It is precisely because we give them money that we should demand better, but to do so simply means stop per-ordering. I bought mine the day before, Season pass and all, but it was $35, less than what I paid for TheWitcher3 so I'm not beat up about it. It was a discount/bargain bin game for me so I was not going to play it any time in the foreseeable future anyway. Having said that, it is still up to us to just stop per-ordering. Do not pay for a promise, one which has been broken numerous times to greater degrees at every turn.

It's also not console gamers, or consoles themselves to blame. They also get terrible releases (Halo for instance).

^ Agreed. I am of the unpopular opinion that it's gamers' own fault that faulty games are released. When games are delayed, they're almost wiped off the map (think GTA V delays how people were pissed off about that). When they're pushed to be released, they're actually removed from stores because of the absolute crap they produced (Batman: AK). I must say that I don't think I'm the only guy here who's more than willing to give up half the game releases every damn year just to make sure they're all OK when released. I look forward to the new Batman. I loved the first, liked the second and I want to play the third. Why didn't already? Bugs. Why haven't I bought The Witcher 3 yet? Bugs. Why did I wait almost a year before I played Far Cry 3? Because I waited for the reported bugs to be fixed.

In short: Release dates don't mean shit to me. My money is well spent and I'll spend it on working products. Buying new games on release (or pre-ordering) these days is a gamble. Do it at your own risk.

I think the demo issue is a combination of factors. For one their size has become problematic. AAA games have such massive texture assets that the demo ends up being the size of a full game.

Also, apparently research done by the bigger publishers has shown that demos have no positive effects on sales. In fact, some argue that it hurts sales. So they feel that spending so much time and money producing a bulky demo that might end up hurting them is not worth it.

Affects sales because if the demo is shit then they won't buy the game but if there's no demo, you create hype, offer pre order incentives etc to steal people's money for a half assed game you wouldn't have bought if there was a demo.

You do know that GTA V PC has already sold 3 million copies on PC?

As for Witcher 3, bugs have been scarce. I have encountered a few, but nothing game-breaking. CDPR does things right.

1. I don't think the size of games matters much because MK X gave us 3GiB of a title screen the proceeded to deliver 29 individual updates, then patched it self, unpatched itself, just so it could patch itself again.
plenty of bandwidth wasted. I think many people here who ordered it from steam downloaded the game the equivalent of 2 times or more. So even if the MK X demo was 29GiB that would be fine.
2. The reason demos would hurt sales is because as a publisher you're hoping to get a financial commitment before delivering the product based purely on dishonest marketing.
BTW, PC games sell more today than any other time in PC gaming history. When exactly was it demos were hurting sales as it's been an upward trend for years on end.

If you did not request a refund......

1. Run the game in borderless window
2. Set shadows to medium
3. Turn off interactive paper/debris
4. Set the rest to maximum or whatever you wish

Found that in some steam forum post somewhere and it actually works. In almost 3 hours of gameplay I have not had a single crash and the game is maintaining it's frames pretty well. Lowest I've seen it go is 47FPS. Runs 60FPS most of the time.
