Hey all,

I had a ROG Ally Z1 extreme that I purchased in Dec 2023. I sent it in for RMA last week since it started giving me trouble.
They had a look at it and almost immediately decided that it is not worth fixing and that they would credit me. (It was less than 6 months old after purchase, so not sure if this had anything to do with their decision).

Now I have to make a decision:
1. Take the credit, go straight back to the store and buy a new ROG Ally Z1 Extreme, such as the one I had. They are in stock and ready to go.
OR
2. Keep the credit and wait for the ROG Ally X which is apparently dropping the 2nd of June 2024. However, I am not sure if it is actually dropping in South Africa at the time and whether or not it even will drop in SA.

Of course the ROG Ally X will be more expensive and I am more than happy to shell out R3k - R5k on the upgraded version, however, I am unsure when or even if it will become available here.

All thoughts, insights or opinions are welcome.

Some additional info that I read this morning:

Nice video summary of the upgrades:

Confirmation of the release date:

What will the cost of the X be?

I'm fairly certain the Ally X will be available in RSA but it's probably worth waiting to see the USA MSRP and gauge the local price to help you decide.

I know they are expecting a 100-200USD increase based on the articles and videos I've seen.

The ROG Ally Z1 Extreme is listed for R13,000 on a lot of retailers (In fact, its what I paid for it 6 months ago and what I can buy it for now again - So the price seems to have settled)

I'm guessing IF it drops its going to be like R17,000.

On top of stronger specs I've read that the current gen has some reliability flaws that may have been addressed in the new model.

I'd wait if the X isn't what you want the Z1 should still be available.

Is what I was thinking too.
Just hope we don't have to wait ages for it to become available in SA.

i have wanted an ally since day 1, but i keep hearing more issues with reliability, this is concerning to hear especially with all the asus and gamers nexus drama. i would assume the new x version will be improved in everyway including build quality and general fixes. it would be best to wait till monday then decide if its worth it or not, the new one will be at least 100 dollars more plus sa tax etc so budget for like 18k
