Hi All,

So I've been reading up on Asus AiMesh and I am still not sure if you can add any mesh devices in the mix, or should everything be Asus?
I have a Asus RT-AC5300 Gigabit Wifi Router and would like to add a few points in the house to make sure all corners are covered.

Anyone did this and can share some insight and assistance? Perhaps you learned the hard way on what to buy and what not...

Thanks, any info would be appreciated.

PS. I was looking at Asus ZenWifi AX units, but felt it is a bit pricey...hence the question if any other brand will work as well.

As far as I have it, if you go AiMesh® you are limited to using ASUS routers. That being said not all ASUS routers support the AiMesh function.

Problem with ASUS routers that support AiMesh, they expensive AF.

Luckily I picked up a deal at Makro in Dec with a two-pack AC68U. They might still be on special?

The AiMesh feature is controlled by software, and is only supported on Asus models.

Here's a link to the supported models: https://www.asus.com/Microsite/AiMesh/ea/

Basically anything from AC1750 and up can support the function.

As for the 2 pack options, those are normally better priced, but the Aimesh feature should be able to support up to 5 nodes (in this case supported 'RT' units).

Hey I got that deal... Except it was cheaper in December. But that is R900 cheaper per modem I believe.

The other thing I will say about the AiMesh from ASUS is that I am pretty sure the setup won't be as easy and painless. Took me less than 20 minutes from opening the box to network setup.

Awesome, thanks guys.

After the comments I can say that I would like to stick to Asus to work with AiMesh.

Appreciate the input.

Rather go with a better brand like TP-Link,
ASUS’s software isn’t great even for basic networking, like once you’re in Mesh mode you can’t assign a static IP to the router.

Also my RMA experience was horrid.

If you get a pack and one node dies, you need to send that entire pack back. Takealot didn’t mention it, took the dead node, sold it and then asked for the other two to complete the RMA.
