AS SSD Results

Here's my 250gb Samsung 840 EVO in my Asus G750 with no tweaks other than what Winodws 8.1 has done.

2x 256GB Samsung 840 Pro (OEM), RAID-0, Asrock Z77 Extreme 6, Windows 7 SP1 - only 4 MB/s short of that mythical 1GB/s mark...

I don't quite know how this is possible but I reformatted, enabled rapid and set an over provisioning.

just some help here... do you install the os onto the SSD then enable Rapid, or do you install the OS in the HDD then use the SSD as a cache?

I normally install the RST or RSTe drivers during the install and leave it like that. I don't install RST application at all.

sorry if im sounding noob, so RST was originally designed to get a SSD to become the cache on a raid array with a normal mechanical HDD. so im presuming you using 2 SSD's in your builds (so one SSD to cache another) to achieve those speeds? because in the end isnt it faster to have your OS installed on a SSD and having the other mechanical drives as storage than installing your OS on a mech drive and just using the SSD to cache?

Oops sorry. I only see now that you want to enable SSD caching. I think the have to configure it in the bios.

i actually havnt set up anything yet, im curious as to how you set your drives up to achieve your results.

im busy building right now and want to give this a try.

so basically im going to get a samsung 840 pro
and have 1 X1Tb drive

with 4 X other mechs for storage (which i want to raid 1).

how am i going to go about it?

sorry for hijacking.

I suggest leave the 840pro as it. Configure raid in bios and set your raid1 for the mech drives and install windows in the ssd.

thanks, i did a little read up and apologies i was mistaken when Rapid was mentioned. i thought it was the Intel rapid storage technology. i didnt know you can enable rapid on the Samsung drive through their magician software.

apologies but thanks for the advice.

details as per my signature.
Settings on the RAID controller is as follows:
Performance Mode = Dynamic
NCQ = Enabled
Read-Cache = Off
Write-Cache Status = On (Write Back)
Write-Cache Mode = Enabled (Write Back)

Shall I change the performance mode from Dynamic to OLTP, then the 4K-64Thrd writes will jump to around 190MB/s but then I take too much of a hit on my Seq reads / writes.

A question though, when I run it, I get an error when it tries to read the Acc.Time, anybody else getting that?

After what I thought would be a decent enough SSD to depend on, it's not even close to what's been posted here...

I'm currently using firmware M310. I've looked at the change log for M311, but it doesn't appear to do anything significant. Unless Corsair is hiding some information...
