Hi There.

As a Professional Architect I realised that the growth in my field was limited, the pay was terrible and the hours were crazy. I then decided that I wanted a change. I taught myself basic coding, HTML, CSS and then dove into Javascript. Was then looking for an internship and I found these guys.

MIP is a Full stack solutions company that powers the backend of major Insurance companies: Sanlam, Legalwise, Hollard, Talksure and many more. With an employment of about 500+ people, MIP is growing every year.

They require prospective candidates that are natural problem solvers - they conduct 3 tests to filter the prospects out. After which candidates are then slotted into a paid internship that lasts 3 months. If you are then good enough, you will be given a full time position at the company.

If you are interested, MIP Holdings | Leading Software Engineering Company in South Africa | Internship you can start the first test here. Please contact me if you do make it or have any questions. PS their offices are in Johannesburg or Cape Town but they do work remotely* however you will have to make your way to JHB for the internship for the first 2 Weeks (they will fund your accommodation and flights) However for the 3rd Test, It can only be done in Johannesburg (for now) and thus you will need to fund your own transport and accommodation for that (working with management to get them to potentially fund this back if you make it).

*Update - for the 6 months of the internship (3 months during and 3 months after) you will have to come into either the Joburg or Cape Town office full-time.

***UPDATE - next internship class starts in April is now FULL - much smaller class. (Not sure exactly when the next one will be, estimated August / September)

^^^
Perhaps try your luck here...? Not sure...

Haha It might have changed, but the first test was an online - problem solving game. I know that they were updating the game but they will get in touch ;)

HI, the first test just ask for your personal details and then congratulates you for having given them your details? Not sure if I am missing the test here?

dunno if their cert is expired on their website though

I have done work for Sanlam and Hollard as a Solutions Architect and never heard of MIP.

Do you have a better link than this one http://mip.co.za

A fantastic internship opportunity... should really be HTTPS if people are sending personal information over the internet. Does not look good in terms of best practices.
So they are currently updating their site (I got told now) - not the best circumstance right now :sneaky:

But MIP is really behind the scenes - we build the software that their call center agents work off of - what their Databases are running on etc.

Interesting Hollard cuts costs, improves service with move to MIP Life

I have not done any projects then where this has been involved. So are you guys the vendor?

Yes the internship sign up needs more work IMO!

Ya I see what you mean, I think the timing is bad. Its an amazing opportunity, and it has changed my life working for them. But if you are a bit concerned about publishing information online then you can also try email the JHB office receptionist - she will assist you: thandik@mip.co.za

My brother did the test, completed it leka and he has to wait now for email feedback to be able to go do the 3 hour test

Hey man, ya the process to get in did take a while - I started the first test in November 2020 and only got in - March 2021. But you must understand that there are hundreds of people taking those tests every month.

If he gets in - let me know!!

Howzit bru, ya he passed the test well but unfortunately due to his age (He's 39) , they couldnt take him but kept his CV for future purposes
Will keep looking out for him. He left his previous job at a school to go to Coding bootcamp for 6 months and then a week or so after he got a job but Covid messed things up and then he got retrenched

Hi guys, just wondering if I need to know some programming languages for this internship?

Nope - they teach you a new language called Progress - not common at all. But if you know coding fundamentals - loops, database queries, conditional statements then learning it will become quite easy. I first learnt Javascript before starting the internship and it helped a lot.

BUT - DO NOT learn a different language whilst you are in the internship as this will just confuse you.

Message me if you have more questions

Ah man that sucks, sorry to hear. Ya I was one of the eldest there - currently 29. There were a lot of 19 year olds - but they are looking for people seriously dedicated to working remotely etc.

I passed the 3-hour assessment, I'm going for the 5-hour assessment at VZAP. Do you have any pointers with regards to what I should prepare?

Link seems to be broken unless it's my browser

Hey, just finished the challenge test. Was actually fun and addicting problem solving al those challenges. I'm not entirely sure what the next step is but I'm very keen. My current career path doesn't have the best growth options so I've been meaning to get into programming for a while too. I've learnt HTML, CSS and some JavaScript as well so it's promising to hear you started similarly.

Hi is this still open & available? I'm really keen

Yes, it is, please note that the 2nd test (1st written test) is only available in JHB and CPT, you will have to make your way to either. BUT the final test, is only available in Johannesburg, but if you pass the 2nd test, you should be able to do the 3rd. - Contact me for more info...

39 cut off, darnit...
Also want to move into this field, but age is a factor and employment opportunities at this age with the lack of experience.

Sorry to hear, teaching yourself and then looking for an unpaid internship might be a foot in the door that could eventually develop into something?

Yip, it’s going to have to be that. Guess freelancing as well

Just wrote earlier today. I'm gutted as I didn't go through. The test really does filter out the potentials from the not. They responded a few hours after, 3hrs in my case. I can't say there is a method one can use to prepare, it's one of those things of, if you are the one then it's for you.

I used gautrain from Pretoria to Sandton from 7h45, then bolt to the premises. It was straight forward, I'm not from the province so it was a pleasant travel experience for me.

I'd encourage others to try out the company and apply, it's really fair. The company has lots of youthful people, many in the internship holding laptops and looking to be enjoying themselves.

lmao, I cant even decipher the entry level numbers :ROFLMAO:
🤦‍♂️
