Are gaming chairs a meme?

Any advice on a gam0r chair? I'm currently using a crappy chair. My ass can't take this pounding anymore.

Yes, gaming chairs are a meme. If you want a decent chair, get an ergonomic office chair.

I have this one: Airmax High Back Chair | Redline Office Chairs It was reasonably cheap and the core ergo features are all there, but the gas strut sometimes drops down when I sit on it (no, I haven't put on weight). They have replaced it for me once already for free though, so kudos to them, but I see the price has gone up quite a bit since I got it, so I am not sure I can really recommend it anymore.

If I were to buy a new chair today it would almost certainly be this one: Metro Mid Back Ergonomic Office Chair As opposed to the above chair (and indeed most chairs you see marketed as "ergonomic") it actually carries ergonomic certification by medical professionals.

From what I have seen you can either get a cheap gaming chair which is a waste of money as these offer little to no support, much like just using a dining room chair with wheels.
Or buy a more expensive gaming chair, which more often than not is a reskinned ergo chair adding R3-5k to the price if not more, in which case just hunt down the ergo chair and save some money.

If you stream though then you MUST have a gaming chair, or you will have to resort to selling your bathwater till you can afford a gaming chair.

The only other mild thing is the adjustable lumbar support wedge tends to slide down over time but I fixed that with cable ties. I also didn't like the angle of the arm rests so I adjusted them with a longer nut, but that is a personal preference thing. No other wear I have noticed, and since around July I've been using it for both work and gaming, so it's not doing too badly. The gas strut thing is annoying though.

I've owned a couple, one of which (a noble chair) I sold just after I bought because it was hard and big and I couldn't take it. I then got a DX racer which was spec'ed to my height. I found it a little comfortable at first and especially couldn't hand the slope of the seat, but then I put some washers between the wheel assembly and the underneath of the seat and now I'm quite happy with it. I think the correct sizing is the most important.

I spent a few years sitting in Corsair gaming chairs, and the longest I could manage was about 3 hours before I had to get up due to uncomfort. I have also had the, in my case, displeasure of using a DX Racer chair - same story.

I got myself a cheap (relavitely speaking by the contents of this thread - it was R 3k) office chair which is nowhere near as big and bulky a bit over a year ago and I've done a few 12+ hour stints in it without the slightest bit of discomfort. The burning in my shoulders and neck after a few hours has also disappeared.

It doesn't offer things such as adjustable arm rests, adjustable lumbar support, adjustable angle etc that most other chairs offer, but I don't need them as it is extremely comfortable out of the box and my body isn't complaining anymore.

I've had neither the squeeking nor broken wheels that either of the two reviews mention.

I had the same chair for 5 years, a great chair.
