How bad of an idea is this? The cooling on my 1060 mini is inadequate to say the least. Cannot believe EVGA put this piece of utter crap out there for sale. Damn thing sits at the max thermal load (82-83 degrees) all the time when under load. Running the stock fan at 100% makes zero difference.

So being a mini card and considering the weight of the twin turbo III cooler, I assume trying to fit it on the mini card is a silly idea right?

Problem is, cannot find the Arctic mono cooler for sale anywhere in SA.

Nah not a silly idea. I have a Arctic Accelero Xtreme Plus and it weighs the same as the stock cooler of my GTX 680. The fans are way better, almost whisper silent even at full tilt.

If I am not mistaken, the Twin Turbo III comes with the backplate/heatsink jobbie as well, and there is a kind of support bracket that comes included.

That doesn't sound right. The reviews generally show decent cooling performance from the mini.

I would try replacing the thermal compound and apply the simple VRM cooling mod mentioned here. Could save you a lot of money and effort.

That sucks. I guess the mini doesn't have the weight of metal required to dissipate the heat compared to the full version.

I thought the cooler on my 1070 was overkill because the metal fins extend quite far back, past the power points [photo below] but then I felt the fins when mining and they were hot, even at the back. Maybe try not to get the Arctic stuff and get a different cooler. You may have to get a AIO water cooler which may cost a bit but it'll work for other GPUs too.

Very specifically the EVGA mini is crap. Zotac mini is just fine. The reviews test the cards under pretty good conditions I think. Ambient temps in the 25-28 degree range which is not what we get in Bloem.

Yeah, I saw it comes with a support bracket. Is there any company in SA that perhaps has the mono plus cooler or can import it?

I’d go buy a 140mm fan and put it in a location where the card gets a ton of fresh air over the fins. This should be a cheap solution that reduces the temps by a few degrees and would be much cheaper than a new cooler.

Yeah, I may just take it out of my desktop chassis and stick it in my mining chassis which has 10 high power fans in push pull config blowing/sucking air over the GPUs. Will try this first to see if it solves the issue. But many people online say the problem is not airflow, but the horribly cheap heatsink used. Thus increased airflow does very little to remedy the issue.

Why don't you write to EVGA and tell them that the card isn't working sufficiently? They might give you an exchange for a different model. EVGA warranties are international.

They are aware of the problems on these cards, but will write to them and see what they say.

I have a Zotac 1080ti Mini that would throttle on stock settings. I got irritated with it and attached a H105 and a Kraken G12 to it. Suddenly is boosts over 250Mhz higher at stock settings at 48C.

The Accelero 3 will do will do wonders for temps but the fans on it are not compatible with the gpu fan socket since the Geforce 7 series hence they released the Accelero 4.

Bought my Arctic cooler here on Carbonite, was my first buy actually.

I saw a cpu and gpu combo for sale HERE

I dont know if the Twin Turbo II will for sure fit your gpu though.

Buy that! It's a great price for both and will sort your cooling problem out.

In case anybody is wondering, it works. Fitted a new arctic accelero twin turbo III to my 1060 mini last night. Was too lazy to test yesterday. Will test today when I get home. The cooler is massive and quite heavy. But it supported very well so the weight shouldn't be an issue.

Problem solved. To say the Arctic cooler is better, is just being stupid because its just monumentally superior.

Stock: 83 degrees. Throttles voltage to 0.6-0.8. Fan at 100%.
Arctic cooler: 52 degrees. Voltage at 1.063 (max). Fan at 100% which is near silent.

Lol I am going to fit one on my 1080ti Mini. Waiting for stock to arrive in CT.

Fitting is a little tricky, but if I could do it, I guarantee it you will. The instructions are not too bad. Just do yourself a favour and download the latest manual off the net, as the stock in the country is old stock with old manuals that do not cater for the 10 series NVIDIA cards.

Also considering putting one on my 1080ti FE.

Is cool.... an old pro with Arctic stuff :D

I got 2 now to fit them. 699 each.

Edit it will be awhile. Going for surgery tomorrow morning, C3 to C7 spinal disks need replacement.

R699 is a very very good price. Mine was R750 or thereabout, plus R60 delivery.

All the best for the surgery. Holding thumbs and wishing you a speedy recovery. Will bother you in a month to hear if you've fitted it yet :)

I might do my Sons MSI 1080 Armor with its GTX 1060 stocke cooler later.. If he ever stops playing that damned Fortnite Game.

Okay the card hits 73 degrees celcius now with a extra 100 or so mhz on the boost clock... This is a card that would throttle at 83 degrees so all in all not too bad an hour spent.

You got it done??? Are the fan speeds constant or on the stock fan curve? Could you please post a pic or 7?

Will these Arctic coolers fit on my ZOTAC 1070 amp? Just realised that my fan might die and my warranty is debatable

Yes easily....you might want to use some Heatsinks for the VRM's and Ram chips. I never bother with the backside heatsink that they provide as I think it looks stupid...

I put this on an RX 480 reference last year. Holy crap, what a difference. So quiet, so cool. 10/10 would mod again.

Also did not put backplate on. Could have just bought Accellero Twin II with no backplate, but heatsinks included.
