Hi all
I wish to get rid of the stupid fan on my CPU cooler and get a nice 120MM SP fan.

It'll be fitted to a Gammaxx 400. So far, my sights are set on the ML120 fans but I see some bad press about them.
My only thing, no LEDs please.

Please weigh in with your 2c.
Tank you.

I'm not altogether sold on the ML series, the SP corsairs are loud but only due to them ramping up higher then their specs state many times, I am loving the noctuas which are quiet and do the same performance as the corsair sp fans. However when it comes to saving some bucks the thermaltake riing radiator fans are impressive as you can feel their force and they are incredibly quiet in comparison to many fans on max speed but I think their max speed is 1600rpm, the noctuas max is around 2k and the corsairs get to 2.2 or 2.3k according to many fan apps I've used to monitor with. The cheapies that blow way more then you'd expect are the cm jetflo fans however they are the noisiest fans I've heard in years. Alot of people like nzxt but my experience with them is they too get noisy with age and begin to have a funny balance wobble.

As for your led hate, the cm jetflo led wires can be cut easily, the thermaltake have an attractive ring around them which isn't an eyesore but the led wire too can be cut, the corsair you can order the non led version and the noctuas have no leds been focused on performance but high prices. Another series to look at which I'm currently using but haven't been able to bench yet are the cooler master master Pro series of air flow and air pressure fans, you can get non rgb and rgb versions. They are quiet so far but I'm not sure if their performance. Prices for all these fans seem to range from R150 to R350 each all besides the Noctua which tend to lean to R400 to R500 each.

And for anybody reading this that doesn't like spending real money the cheapest cheapies that still perform a little but which are not my ideal are the cooler master sickleflow fans, they aren't the quietest nor the strongest but they are average in all sections and normally cost about R120 each

well tbh, you can't really compare a max RPM fan at 2200 with one of say 1800

obviously there is going to be a difference

wish I could personally do one of those IN DEPTH fan tests you see on Overclockers, but already just the price of fans alone would kill any sort of budget

To be honest with you, I use both Corsiar SP120 fans, together with a Cooler Master (Non-LED) Blade Master, of which the Blade Masters are much stronger in pressure. Something like 3.92mm H20 vs Corsair's 1.8mm H20 pressure... I hooked them up to a Lamptron FC5V2 fan controller, and also use the Corsair Link utility to set the max rpm's.
Lastly, I also used the Asus Ai Suite 3 to benchmark the fans.

Long story short, after all the fiddling around and stuff. The Blademasters keep the rig quite cool... I only added the Corsair Fans for two reasons:
1. Push pull - So lower RPM's = less noise = same result as Blademasters only @100%
2. Aesthetics - Because RGB gives more FPS!! Hahaha

Anyways. Bang for buck I would highly recommend the Coolermaster blademasters. Especially if you are going for static pressure and liquid cooling setups. You would be surprised at their performance and cost. I paid R130 a fan at Titan Ice for these bad boys. Just my 2 cents.

Hi
I am using the same CPU cooler, Deep cool Gammaxx 400. It's alright but I'm at stock clocks now since Divinity 2 crashes on any sort of OC(thanks Larian Studios). If you end up using a high sp fan with this cooler just be warned that the fins,on my cooler at least, tend to vibrate and make a high pitched whine when fan speed goes past 2000 rpm. I'm using Corsair sp120 high performance fans in push+pull.

As for your choice of fans I can speak for the phanteks and Corsair ML and SP series . The ML fans are loud but move A LOT of air at high pressure as well. The SP high performance are quiet until 1600 rpm but even then are quieter than the ML's. The phanteks fans are quiet but aren't fast and as a result don't move as much air as the corsairs.

As for a recommendation I'd go for the sp120 quiet editions.

Yeah I'm not sold on any fans in my opinion. I have HD 120 fans from Corsair and while they are extremely quiet on low RPM levels they are horrible at anything higher than low. Will be getting a ML140 in about two weeks time, so hoping that won't be noisy. Oh well. Otherwise I have two NZXT Aer fans that I got with my AIO and those sons of bitches get whiny when at high RPM.

What I can say however is that my with my x52 Kraken, and the four fans in push-pull my CPU does idle at room temperature with all the fans set to their lowest RPM. I never really have to ramp up the fans.

you could solve this by placing plastic sheets down the side of the cooler to prevent the fans from vibrating. This would also improve your cooling.
