Hey guys. This might be a time-waster, but I really need a few serious opinions on this.
So I've been saving up the last few months for an iPad that I can hopefully upgrade to from my absolute tank of an 8-year-old iPad Air 2. Don't get me wrong, I love my Air 2, but I honestly think it's due for an upgrade, as I really want a new iPad that's future-proofed for at least the next 5–8 years. I have been looking closely at the iPad Air 5th gen and the iPad Pro 11 inch M2. IMO, the Air is adequate for my needs as a third-year university student, but with the base configuration starting at 64 GB, it is a bit of a tricky situation, as I don't believe 64 GB will suffice in a few years. Since the next best configuration is 256 gb, with a price of R15.2 k, I am really starting to feel like throwing in another R1.5 k to upgrade to the 128 gb 11-inch Pro model (which I found cheapest for R16.8 k), which I feel would be more future-proofed with all the extra (but insignificant) features as a bonus. I have been trying to look around for the M1 iPad Pro versions to save some money, but either they are not in stock with the usual suppliers or are ridiculously overpriced. So what I need to decide now is:
1. Whether I take the base configuration iPad Air 5th Gen or the base iPad Pro 11 inch M2 (or M1 if someone has it in stock), and
2. Where could I get the cheapest prices from a retailer online? I found a site called macnificent.co.za (shop and ship online.co.za: Apple iPad Pro 11 inch 128GB WiFi M2 Chip Space Grey (4th Gen)), but I am honestly not sure how trustworthy they are, especially considering this is an expensive purchase for me. Are there any offers I can take advantage of to reduce the price of this purchase? I saw that iStore has an education discount, but it's a measly 2% of the purchase price.
Lastly, before some people say that an iPad is not worth it and I should instead get a laptop, do note that I already have a decent gaming desktop PC where I am able to complete work that is suitable for a computer (I'm studying computer science). I merely have a desire to purchase an iPad for the fact that:
a) I used my Air 2 for a ton of tasks excluding note-taking (due to the lack of Apple Pencil and now software support) and
b) I feel as if a new iPad will help me manage all my notes, textbooks, and workflow apps in one place. I took paper notes in my second year, and let me tell you, it was not a fun experience at all. From CS theory and random scribbles, to math proofs, and physics tutorials and assignments, it was a nightmare always finding an empty book or piece of paper to write on, let alone keeping track of them
Sorry for the long post, but I would appreciate the feedback from community members who have had/not had a good experience with an iPad and who can give good advice, and a good price lol.
