3d Rendering Rig

Yo dudes,

The Company I work for is looking to get an inhouse rendering PC (for 3d)... Im looking for some indepth info on this.
Not quite sure what is needed, better CPU vs GPU . Is it just the same as a beast gaming PC etc? The more spent = better machine what can we skimp on? Is Overclockign worth it for rendering ? etc

Does anyone have any experience with this type of rig?
Even better can any reseller PM for discussion on a full build? Cape Town Only pls

something like Solidworks, to me, seems to love cores

however most 3D rendering benefits from GPU power

I am sure something like an 8700k with money focused on getting either 1 or more powerful GPUs would fit this need

memory I do see go up quite a bit, so something like 64+ would also be good

The company i contract to does quite a bit of rendering (Mines, process plants etc) Mainly for VR Walk Throughs

For the most part i have configured a couple of workstations as a farm (10 or so) They use 3dsMax along with afterburner.

The systems use xeon cpus and one or other nvidia quadro card with and average of 32gb RAM. As far as im aware the RAM is only used to buffer the payload.

Now some of these "jobs" take up to a week to complete where smaller tasks dont require the use of the farm.

Threadrippers are great and don't waste money on quadro cards. What render engine and modeling software are you using?

Thanks for the replies! After more research , seems like building a decent "gaming" rig is sufficient... and unless you want to go hardcore rendering the non workstation GPUs are fine. We were deciding between Red shift vs Arnold... ive heard Arnold is more RAM dependent (?) but even then more RAM is probably never a bad thing lol

Does your company do VFX? More ram the better :)
