180 - 200k Car suggestions

Around R4200 at 11.5% over 60 months. Would try to negotiate a lower interest rate though.

This is exactly what my fiance is paying for her Cruze per month. She does have a 15% balloon I think but went wit ha zero deposit. I really urge you to go try and drive a cruse. It is a HUGE car. And buying new you miss out on all those problems some one else caused in a car.

I'll look into it, thanks. There is a Chev/Opel dealership rather close to home, so I'll go around during the week.

Used to drive a 325i E90 and it was quite thirsty. The 320d/330d will always be a better option when it comes to fuel consumption. But let me tell you, there's nothing like the sound of a BMW 6 cylinder petrol engine, you won't get any better.
I got myself a 320d F30 after that and in hindsight was the worst decision I could've made. The E90 was a lot more fun to drive and much better built as well.

Edit (forgot to add my recommendation): Fiesta or Renault Clio, can easily get a 2015 model with decent mileage in that price range. And the Renault comes with basically everything and an excellent warranty/service plan.

When you say "thirsty", what numbers are we talking about (if you can remember). There is a 325i E92 that caught my eye :D, but I know that financially I should be looking at the 320d :)

traffic 7km to the LT , highway if you drive responsibly 12-12,5 if you drive like me 9ish

Those figures are similar to the Golf 6 GTI i had, compared with my current BMW F21 116i, it is rather "thirsty"

In town I got like 13-14l/100km which in comparison to diesel cars is rather crap. Long distance was much better at about 8-9l.

Zero , dan man, thats not a bad deal at all.... Busy looking around for a set of wheels myself :)

Mind if I ask for a bit of advice aswell ?

I'm looking at a few different cars (Second hand) below and would like to know from anyone's experience with any of them. (Be it, Insurance - Had my License for just over 4 years now , Servicing, Reliability, etc)

1. 2007 Ford Focus ST, 98k KM's on the clock @ R89k
2. 2009 Ford Fiesta, 72k KM's @ R80k
3. 2011 Ford Fiesta, 62k KM's @ R75k
5. 2011 Hyundia i20, 65k KM's @ R72k (Not bad Deal at all I think)
6. 2006 Audi A3, 177k KM's @ R79k (Would really love to get this car, just love the Interior - But yeah the KM's are a bit high)

if not :p, ignore the above and apologies for hijacking your thread

raydummer......Not a problem at all bud.

Unfortunately, I cannot offer any information regarding the cars you are looking at, but I'd be interested in seeing the feedback on this from the carbies who do.

That focus has one of the best sounding engines around and it's a blast to drive especially when modded.
Unfortunately it's extremely heavy on petrol and maintenance is going to cost you a pretty penny.

The A3 can be a nice all round package provided no short cuts have been taken on maintenance.
If the cam follower isn't checked regularly, your motor can go poof at any moment..

Had the i20 as a rental and I quite liked it. It had decent fuel consumption, good ride as well as blueteeth and aux.
Judging by your age and budget this would be my pick.

Prepare your anus for insurance and maintenance on the other turbo cars.

Thanx, Mogo , yeah I was thinking about that..... Seems the i20 it would....I've had very good reliability from my lil Hyundai Getz - 180km on the clock and still going strong.

Lol yeah, Insurance would start the ripping of the anus and then the fuel consumption would finish it off :p

Cool bananas man :p

what about the new ford focus 1.0 ecoboost. its list price is R219000.00 but see some specials where it was going for R201000.00 ( not sure how long that price is going to remain at though). its a pretty awesome car, bigger than the fiesta plus brand new and got decent standard kit like aircon, bluetooth, usb, and service plan etc.

You can't really compare diesel to petrol just on fuel consumption. Maintenance of a diesel is much more often and more expensive so unless you drive huge distances, it doesn't make sense. Also driving a diesel isn't as nice as a petrol. The sound is super kak and the power is far less.

If you had a massive car like an X5 or Prada or other SUV, I'd say get diesel just to keep the consumption down and help shift the weight. Torque for diesel engines is far better but you lose so much as an experience.

If I had R200 000 to spend on a car, I'd get a 1.6 Fiesta Titanium second hand and enjoy it. I'd not buy a Polo like everyone else. I want to enjoy driving a car, not put up with it because of fuel consumption.

Those 1.9 tdi sportlines got 20-25km/l and nice power :D

It's a diesel. It's the way it delivers that power that matters. It's why when my friend takes me for a drive in his M3, I get all happy. It's an amazing car with an amazing engine. And it's the E46 M3. Stright 6, 3 litre. Not even the fastest M3. It's the same with my dads 1989 Supra. It's a delight to drive but not the fastest.

The Fiesta is a legend at being a drivers car and Topgear often praise the ST as the best hot hatch. The Focus ST is far more powerful but they love the Fiesta's simplicity and driving style and that's what I want in a car.

I'm not religious but if I had any idea of what hell is, it'll be driving a diesel Nissan Micra.

Diesel figo also crap

Diesel figo also crap

My girl had a Figo as a rental car this week. Even in petrol guise, that car is badly made and not nice.
Slamming the door felt like putting tin foil over a box.

Edit: I come across as very judgemental of cars but it's for a reason. You shouldn't have to spend your hard earned money on a crap car.
You can get a good car for the price of a terrible car, the choice is yours. Car makers need to understand the basics of making a good car.
It's not hard but a lot, especially Peugeot, seem to consistently make horrible cars.
Nissan also seem to be really good at making crap everyday people cars (excluding the GTR).

You can get a good cheap car second hand that won't cost a fortune, you just need to look and do your homework.

People actually buy this car:

2008 - 2010 audi s3 #justsaying

I was all for this option not long ago, however the fuel economy on these are horrible, plus in your price range you'll be looking at the pre-facelift 2007/2008 S3; and that's already 2 models old... I'm on the Audi forum, and as much as the guys will encourage you to get it... They say that you're looking to get is 350-400km on a 60L tank. Maybe 12-13l/100 at best.

My opinion is to also consider a 2010-2012 A3 1.4T... You get the same chassis and interior, without the guzzler under the hood... And at 92kW, it's no slouch.

I've seen a few, fully loaded... Leather, xenons with DRL, sunroof, under 100k km... Under 200k.

Umm I disagree on fuel consumption. My average is around 600km and it's 55L. Depends on how you drive I guess and how much if that is pure city driving. I do commute a lot. And there's not much different between my 2008 model and newer models. You're just missing led day lights and slight tweaking to the shape of lights. The rest looks very similar.

oh and to put it in perspective, my previous 1.4 polo (not the vivo) did about 750 per tank on average for the same commute. The improvement in the car was definitely worth the minor drop in economy.

I would not say diesel is kak because it is lower powered than petrol. The main advantages of diesel is torque and economy. If you compare the BMW 330 petrol and 330 diesel they have the same 0-100 +- 6 seconds Both have a limited top end of 250km/h and maintenance is roughly the same +- every 15-0000kms only thing is the diesel has a larger oil capacity so costs a bit more. I changed from a 328i to a 330d and have never looked back. 270-000kms with very few problems and nothing beat the surge of acceleration in top gear up a steep hill.

600 km to a tank is not bad at all, but it it a 60L tank... All the 8P Quattro models have a 60L tank, the regular 1.8T and below have the 55L tank.

I had the facelift shape 1.4T... Used to get on average 800km per tank... In the end it's what weighed against getting the S3 for me. That and, the fact that it's hard to get a low mileage specimen, not knowing how the car was driven or maintained... Considering that they're all a few years out of plan.

Well I work on that I don't put more than 55l in my tank at a time so for me it is 600km average on 55l. If there's more left then it doesn't affect me.
