The RWC Thread

I wish Kwagga would start. He has X Factor about him and we need him at the breakdown as we are too slow at slowing down opposing teams ball. Tricky where to fit him in though. Why I said earlier in this thread, losing Marx was a massive loss. Biggest loss of anyone in the squad imo.

I've also thought about this, but I think giving PSDT the first 40 and kwagga the 2nd 40 is also not a bad idea

I think they are playing to the strength of the strategy, Impact players like Kwagga is used to upset the apple cart. Having guys like Kwagga come it 3/4 of the way through when the teams tiring the completely change the rate of play along with his aggression at the breakdown is a huuuuuuge strategic advantage.

Along with his ability to pretty much slot into any position and perform on par makes more sense to keep him on the bench.

Kwagga is used to keep up the intensity when the opposing teams performance starts dipping, Something that will most likely be wasted in the start of the game in a set position.

Think about it, you nail the opposing team with just physical force with okes like Peter-Steph, Siya and Jasper, Then 50min in change tact and send in the fresh AF spider monkeys...

I mostly agree and well articulated.
I just think we need a fast start against France and to me our work at the breakdown is not very impressive.
Tough to say but our loosies are a bit of a weakness this year.

I think we always fall into the stereotypical mindset that we can out muscle any team, and I don't think that will happen against France.
They have a very impressive pack, in spite of losing their best lock. Their loosies are fantastic, especially Grégory Alldrit, and are very competitive at the breakdown, and I think Kwagga would be a better starting option imo.

I'm not convinced about Jasper and Kolisi, who is no doubt a great captain, is not a world class no.6.
PSD is still a top player, but not quite as good as he was last WC. There we had Kolisi playing his best rugby , world rugby player of the year in PSD, and a monster in Duane at the back end of his golden years.

4 years on and Wiese is no Duane, and both Kolisi and PSD are 4 years older and not quite at their peak.

I'm not convinced we've seen the best Springboks yet, Especially in the likes of Libbok and Jasper, I mean why would Rassie show all his cards just yet. Apart from his kicking, Libbok has played some good rugby in the last few games, Jasper has been an absolute machine.

I really like to believe the loss against Ireland was all part of willee ol Rassies plan, facing off against France in a QF is a much better option than the All-Blacks, who even though many rate them the worst AB team ever, I would pretty much face anyone else in a QF than the AB's.

Team just announced. Manie starting. Pollard on bench. 5 -3 split.
Strong team, I am just not a fan of Kriel in mid field. Was hoping to see AE next to DDE.

Springbok team: 15 Damian Willemse, 14 Kurt-Lee Arendse, 13 Jesse Kriel, 12 Damian de Allende, 11 Cheslin Kolbe, 10 Manie Libbok, 9 Cobus Reinach, 8 Duane Vermeulen, 7 Pieter-Steph du Toit, 6 Siya Kolisi (captain), 5 Franco Mostert, 4 Eben Etzebeth, 3 Frans Malherbe, 2 Bongi Mbonambi, 1 Steven Kitshoff.

Replacements: 16 Deon Fourie, 17 Ox Nche, 18 Vincent Koch, 19 RG Snyman, 20 Kwagga Smith, 21 Faf de Klerk, 22 Handre Pollard, 23 Willie le Roux.

I actually just shared my views on FB, Would prefer AM to Kriel,

I only really just grasped what a monstrous back line we have to pick from. I guess the selection is based on the type of game you want to play. One thing I can say is we are not short of talent to pick from

Snyman, Kwagga, Faf and Willie is going to bring some serious pace in the last 30 of the game.

Only surprises really for me is Jasper not in the 23, seemed like he was cementing his place (Not the biggest fan of him) most likely because we are going with the more traditional bench he lost his place.

And Reinach getting the nod in front of Faf, most likely the plan is to pressure Du point as much as possible and Reinach pace will help with it and bring Faf on second half continues the pressure.

Seems like a sensible selection. Surprised Wiese didn't make the bench, but I see what they are doing with Deon covering both hooker and loosies. Duane needs to go all out for 50min. His final game probably and Kwagga can come on, and hopefully we are still in the game.
Glad Reinach is starting.
Too late to pick Am. As much as I'm not a fan of Kriel, he has to play.

Still concerned about the inherent home team bias (nearly said BIOS) with the officials, but not much we can do about that.
Ref''s and TMO are going to end up being the focus before the end of the WC. I fear a Red card is going to derail one or more teams before this is over.

Only real surprise to me is Reinach ahead of Faf. Knew Am wouldn't feature, maybe if we reach the semi's. Extremely happy about Vermeulen at 8. A good team selection I think. Reinach ahead of Faf tells me we are not going to play a kicking game, which too be honest, I think is correct as France have been good under the high balls and dangerous on counter attack. I think we are going to play a fast paced game, but with the forwards mostly. Constant forwards pods taking it up off 9, suck in the defence and then give it to Manie to go wide or cross-kick. Reinach able to snipe if the defence does not stay close to the rucks. Also could be a bonus on cross defence because of his speed. Going to be a awesome game, just hope it doesn't get spoiled by silly cards.

Imagine for a second...

AB beat Ireland
Argentina beat Wales
Boks beat France
Fiji Beat England.

All entirely possible...

Southern Hemisphere teams ONLY in Semi Finals..

Would be beautiful!!

I always find it hilarious how we get so tribal about our hemispheres :D

haha yeah, social media seems to always go on about it more than i care.

but this would REALLY be a peach if it were to happen! I can picture the Wales, Ireland and Eng fans being salty for the next 4 years..

More likely it's an all NH semi final. And England or Wales on their day could just have a blinder and win the whole damn thing.

You really do seem like a "the Glass Is Half Empty" kinda guy?

Howzit guys,

My toppie is asking me if Openview shows the rugby games? If someone could confirm i'd appreciate it as I don't have Openview.

Also,is there an easy/cheap way to watch the games?
