NVIDIA RTX 40 series thread

Yo @Toy Machine . They are actually TT Toughfans: 140mm on the case, and 120mm on the rad. Bought from Amazon and Wootware. Commonly available at several local vendors. I would highly recommend them, super quiet. I tried several previous fans including Bequite Silent Wings 3 (silent at low RPM but not good airflow) and Scythe Kazaflex fans (relatively quite and great airflow, but not as good as Toughfans). Hope that helps.

The 4090 is an absolute beast. Got the liquid suprim, the only thing that bothered a little is the length of the radiator tubes, could have been a little longer

Got my 4080 from Woot today (yeah yeah, I know about the 7900XTX but wanted to try DLSS and raytracing, had a 6800XT previously). Very happy with the overall setup! Wanted a card that runs below 300W too. Nyt, now to follow suit with your PSU cable!

Wow, so there are people out there who will buy the 4080 cards despite their horrible value for money. Yikes.

Yup! Current new generation prices relative to two years ago (before the crypto escalation) are an abomination; relative to high-end cards from six months ago, it's comparative but still not cool. The 7900XTX isn't going to be a magic bullet to usher in lower prices either, with the USD200 difference likely to result in a R5k difference in price. If the 7900XTX is closer to the 4090 than the 4080 in performance, it's unlikely prices are ongoing to be lower than the 4080, especially given the short supply of the AIB cards, which seems to be the case if the rumour mill and lack of product pages is to go by. For me, I am keen to try ray tracing and DLSS this round, and with some of my own testing DLSS is better than FSR 2 (just less blurry) (my opinion). I also set a budget for my new PC, which the 4090 didn't accommodate. Another option is to wait 6 months until everything is in stock and prices may stabilise further, but by then you are almost 1/3 through the current cycle. In short, the raw uplift + DLSS is more than enough to run anything for this cycle, so whether it's a 7900XTX/XT or a 4080/4090, pick a card and enjoy it - if you can stomach the price, that is!

Yall don't remember the dark dark days of..... 12 months ago.

Same price now gets you double the VRAM and 50% more performance than a 3080. Not great value, maybe not even good value but definitely not horrible value.

The fact that you have to justify it's price compared to being scalped and ripped off just shows that it's horrible value.

Comparing a price/perf of a 2022 GPU vs a 2017 GPU to validate the 4080's price/perf shows how bad it is.
There is all sorts of ways to justify it, this is his way.

If you want something bad enough, and you can. Do it!

You're right comparing 2022 vs 2017 is not right.

I should account for inflation. So R13k from 2017 is actually worth R16.7k today thanks to inflation.
So the 4080 looks like an even better deal now :ROFLMAO:

I would hope that the fps per rand of a three generations newer product is better.

Heck, why not go all the way back to the RIVA TNT2 - that was $300 MSP in 1999 for a flagship card! In today's money that's supposed to be $536.64... oh wait that'd actually be a great price for a high-end GPU... never mind.

Also:

But whatever helps you sleep at night, but I still would have gone 4090 / 4090 Ti if you were that insistent on throwing away your money.

You're so focused on dissing the 4080's price that you didn't even realize I'm not the guy with the 4080 lol

#Team4090

I'm definitely grabbing a 4090 in the next 6 months, probably earlier.

You are aware that ironically that's also not value for money, any card above the median is not value for money, you just happen to be at a different/better section of the value curve. When a person is targeting best performance available, either available as in generally in the market or available relative to their own affordability, "value for money" is not a [major] factor.

The 4090 trumps the 4080 in value though

It's still not objectively "value for money", it just happens to have better value in comparison to the 4080 but still overall terrible value on the value graph. The card on the peak of the value bell graph will be the one with the value for money title. Historically within the same generation without fail so far it's the mid range cards, when taking into account multiple generations it's probably the 1080ti.

At least the R8 wouldn't lose its value over time as hard as the RTX4080 would, but hey keep making memes if that comforts the hole in your wallet. The main point was that it's a horrible value proposition, but I see that thought is too complex for some here. So yes, haha funny text on stock image.

Looks like NVIDIA heard you, introducing Portal RTX.

Nee bru. Portal with rtx … rough this. Next is solitaire with rtx showing similar results. But it appears quite a blatant “let’s turn up the number of ray traced paths where a 4090 hits 60fps … to give people a reason to buy”

Look I was eyeing that strix 4090 that was for sale here . But alas it’s on hold

This is gonna sound salty, but I hope the 18 FPS was worth the R33k you spent to get it @jlarsa
Thats 17 more frames than I would get. At least he can get playable-ish with DLSS, which I wont.
