Hi all
Since my ADSL has capitulated and is expensive, I'm looking at an LTE-A deal with a cap of 100gigs.
No contract is a must.

Has anyone got any suggestions?
I'm not taking a Telkom deal because reasons but a lot of the offers are backed by Cell C. I'm not a huge Cell C fan.

Vodacom 90gigs. 60gigs anytime, 30gigs night. R299 per month. If I'm not mistaken, deal ends this weekend. Unfortunately this IS a contract.

If you don't want a contract you are definitely looking at one of the minor service providers, all of which use Cellc.

You can try a telkom prepaid sim and force it to use mtn network, however the connection isn't reliable.

The next best are mtn black Friday deals. Which is... Months away.

Maybe try Rain. They use mtn (kind of, they throttled badly). You'll have issues during peak times if you're in a metropolitan area.

Good luck. If you find something. Post it here. Let us know.

Out of contract you're going to PAY. I pay R899 for a 200GB Cell C contract - 100GB day, 100GB night. It works, but 100GB really isn't a lot.

I am with Afrihost R530 for 100gb, havent had any real issues from them.
Getting speeds of 30mb down and 20mb up without any boosters
Afrihost

Webafrica month to month I pay R845 for 200gb, its on cellc network though

Get the mobile rain and get the uncapped for R250 but then you need to organize another isp for 6pm to 11pm. When i last used telkom at peak pings werent great at peak hour so for gaming its so so. Cell c no idea.

Mtn & vodacom cant comment as i havent used them for lte internets but from what i see they a lot cheaper on contract (Yes i saw no contract) :p

Thanks.

I checked out my options and Webafrica had the best offer with a free 50MB/s synchronized connection that I only have to maintain the month to month contract for 6 months to pay off.

Cell C has coverage in my area but no one else, except Telkom.

Telkom won’t do a month to month but we’re cheaper.

Thanks for the help. I’ll order the Webafrica service as I’m planning on emigrating and it ticks most of the boxes.

Why not get a prepaid sim it was R1200 for 200 gigs + 200 gigs but double check that as i might be a bit off on price xD You will have to organize a router though but guessing yoh get a 'free' router with webafrica as long as you do 6 month contract

Well Webafrica was R530 for 100 gigs a month and I’m very happy with that arrangement, plus I just return the modem if I cancel the service.

I’ll check out the prepaid option though. I know my dad uses it.

Get Rain LTE for R250 i use like 400 Gigs a month the only caveat is that it doesn't work between 6 PM-11 PM. You could use something else between that like a Cell C 20 Gig for R219

be very wary of Afrihost terms and conditions...
1. The Cell C service is rubbish.
2. its a month to month deal with a R1000 cancellation fee if you cancel in first 6 months whether you take a router or not.

Yeah, I know. Most internet companies have moved away from RAIN to Cell C as RAIN has become over burdened.
I plugged in my Cell C backed Webafrica modem yesterday and was getting download speeds of between 3 to 8 megs a second. Terrible. Was about to cancel the contract within the 7 days I'm allowed to with no repercussions.

Telkom service is amazing in my area but I decided to dig further. I put my work SIM in my Webafrica router and my Webafrica SIM in my work router. Suddenly, both are hitting ~20 meg download speeds. Both are backed by Cell C.

No idea. Maybe it took a day for the SIM to find the nearest tower (which is around the corner from me, I've got Cell C LTE+ coverage as per the map).

To be honest I tried the CELL C twice. I even bought a router... I could not get more than 4 megs in a LTE-A area and the routers all of them would lose signal 3 or 4 times a night...
Luckily I can use the routers with Vodacom and Rain. For some odd reason Vodacom hits 99 megs at around 2am.

I know that signal is a big thing and so is latency. It's why I wouldn't get LTE at first because I knew that I couldn't game with it online with something like PUBG.

There's no replacement for a cable. I don't care what 5G promises, fiber is infinitely better. Even good old copper can outperform an LTE service at times. It's all about the support and Telkom has zero interest in ADSL now so the exchanges are left to rot.

I don't like LTE but it solves my problem of having zero ADSL connectivity so that's fine.

When I eventually move to England, I'll be rocking a 500 meg/s fiber line and be living in the future. In 6 months time I'll cancel the contract and give the modem to my dad who is still on rickety old ADSL.

Hell, my family friend in Paris has a 1000 MB/s line. Do you know how quick it is? Your device can't keep up.

I'm on Cell C LTE. 20Mbps easy.

I can't find their prepaid section anywhere :(
I'll take another look because if I could move to Telkom, it would be a better service. I just know that they are shitheads when it comes to cancellation time.
Thankfully, my best mate is a litigation lawyer.

U need to buy airtime online ane then convert to data. R555pm same as contract.

Had a telkom sales person also tell me there are no prepaid deals.

I took out a month to month a while back when the 100+100 night owl stuff launched. I told the sales lady instore that i already have a modem so i want it month to month, been that way ever since.
I do get the occasional call stating "you can upgrade" :p

A fucking year? God damn, that’s impossible to handle.

I’ve cancelled my landline and they said it’ll take 3 weeks to process. Lies, all lies.

After my 2 years they said inhad to.cancell my sim and would not drop my price from 999 for 100gn to 759 for 100gb.

Everytime u phone its another story.

Buy a prepaid sim and change the tariff to smartbroadband via *180#.
They buy prepaid data and convert to data bundles. I buy 200+200 for 1055 and they expire after 60 days...

Is there a way to do this without having to remove the sim from the router? Or would you have to remove it every time you add mode data?
By remove I mean temp place it in a phone and use *180#

Mine is a prepaid data sim. Telkom did ir for me.

You create a telkom account on their webpage then you add the number etc.

What id normally do is out sim into my phone covert to smart broadband package then add the number to telkom account which sends a verification code to the cell. Type the code into the site and then put sim into router.
Issues :

1st ive had with their site it can be very slow at times like it times out multiple times....

2nd if your data runs out its not always possible to get to that telkom page im guessing this is a dns issue or something.

But apart from the above two it works well for recharging as they have options to use your cc or input a airtime voucher. Not sure if you can convert airtime to data on their but i have bought data from their site plenty times.

They do have an android app but its also sometimes works and sometimes doesnt.

NB the android app could have improved im not sure as i havent used it in about 8 months.

I can’t find the 100gig top up for R550 listing at all.

If it’s true, have a day left to cancel my contract and I’m tempted to since the connection is meh.
