Hi All,

I need some help, old folks across from me wants a easy Wifi solution without costing an arm and a leg.

They basically two people at home with a 50mb line but there router is an old Tenda AC6 does not even provide any firmware support :(

Now where they spend most of there time is a stoep at the back of the house and the wifi signal is poor as it comes.

Has anyone used the following Reyee routers?

-Reyee RG-EW1200G-PRO
-Reyee RG-EW1800GX
-Reyee RG-EW1300G

I am thinking of getting two RG-EW1200G running it in mesh mode as both routers support it to extend the wifi.

Any have a better idea maybe? there budget is R1600 :(

I can't comment on Reyee, but Cudy products perform great. Mesh setup is easy as it comes, and they now have a mobile app too. Super budget friendly

My cousin has his own IT company. When I was looking into getting a mesh system for my house to improve WiFi coverage he mentioned Reyee. He says he uses it all the time and it works great for the relatively low cost.

I myself don't know it and have never used it. I picked up a Xiaomi AX3000 2-pack around Black Friday last year and it sorted my problems, was on special then for R1900.

currently using the EW3000GX-PRO

Loving it so far

The Cudy seems appealing will be honest, but the internal antenna's of the cheap mesh products would not penetrate walls :(

That particular router gives me great speeds and coverage around a 140m2 double story

Will look at there building plans I assume there property size is about 1800m2 house should be around 480m2

Just trying to give them enough wifi coverage as far possible.

Personally I've worked with their APs, they work flawlessly.

Mesh is always hit and miss, a wired AP would be more reliable and faster.

Maybe I could assist with a older Unifi AP

You only need controller to configure it once and controller can be switched off or chucked as long as no fancy goodies are configured.
have an AP outdoor as piff

I hardwire the mesh units I install, so no worries about them talking to each other over wifi. The tp link decos also perform great, but I think thats way out of budget.

Where are they based if I may ask?

Small suburb of Krugersdorp, 3 bedroom house

Mesh would work for them but thinking for cost effectiveness, use there router hardwire a second router as AP and carry on :)

I would go with this.
Use what they have since it aint broken, then just add 1 or two AP direct from it.

My only concern is, with a router that does not receive anymore firmware updates is there not any sort of vulnerability tied to it?

I was scheming this but it is out price and not sure if this is new products from TP link.

hence why I thought Reyee routers and wired them together

Difficult one, but if you think when the last time Huawei LTE routers got updates and how many people use them.
Just because there no more updates don't always mean its fooked, but yeah there is a possibility. Sometimes this is necessary to force people to upgrade to something newer and better else we might still have been stuck on Windows XP.

So I had a look at this for them

my worry is this
  • Easy Setup and Use: Set up your mesh WiFi in minutes with powerful Aginet app.

  • Remote Management: TR-069, TR-181, TR-111, and TR-143 are supported.

this seems to be more ISP provided mesh system or I am wrong? do not want to get them something then those remote management can be hack by anyone :( unless I just disable it?

That router plus a mesh, I should think so, yes.

Just as a reference I went with this budget router. Really nice equipment, must admit the wifi coverage is insane in the furthest part of the house on 5ghz band I managed a ping of 7m/s 6mb down and 11mb upload from a 50/50 line which is crazy considering it has to go through 5 walls to reach that space.

Only down side if you considering this product is QOS and the WPS function that is non existent but even for old folk this is a fairly easy setup
