Back to square 1 now again.......

For some reason the core and memory dropped to like 620Mhz, and it worked fine yesterday... today I reset it back to stock and uppded the voltage to 1174mV again... game keeps on crashing... I'm over this BS now. Even dropping the core to stock 925Mhz as well as 825Mhz doesn't work.

Feel like selling this PC and just using the laptop, it's never given me issues.

So effing annoyed I can smash this PC..... ffs...

But it's only battle$%^ that keeps crashing... all other games are fine thus far. WTF?!?!?!?!?!

Oh well...

Going to run Furmark now on completely stock settings and see if it crashes as well... if that's the case, I'm buying a GTX680 and RMA'ing this card.

Yip mine was running perfectly fine with everything except for Battlecrap 3.
Good luck bud...Its not the card as the GTX680 did the exact same thing.

That game is just **** poor, Always issues..they fix one problem then create 10 new ones.

build another rig so you can play BF3 :p

don't blame your hardware if it ends up giving trouble on poorly designed software :(

but ofc, if it turns out that it is actually the hardware (because giving trouble globally), then only solution would be to switch.

Ran Furmark now for over a hour... then as soon as I started opening up some more GPU-Z and moving them around to take a screenshot... "AMD Display Driver has stopped responding..."

WTF?!

I'm going to lose my mind...

EDIT:

Just did a complete ATIMAN uninstaller run and loaded the drivers that came with the card (As recommended by some people on the interwebz), played a TDM as well as a whole 1000 ticket conquest large on BF3 (+/- hour of gaming), no crash thus far, and this is with EVERYTHING factory stock, MSI afterburner isn't installed atm.

Will test some more when I have time and update.

Cheers.

Just as I thought the problem is resolved....

Played another round of TDM now and then:

View attachment 6021

ShockG said he'll try and arrange RMA for the card, so going to send it back to him tomorrow or tuesday.

Going to play on the laptop for now, don't have money for another GFX card at the moment.

FFS....... think this was my last Radeon now, time for the green stuff, think I'll save up for when the GTX 690 gets released then.

PC also started BSOD'ing on me now, uninstalled drivers, rebooted, BSOD again... reseated card now screen stays blank..... WTF?!

Well...... took the card out now and inspected it closely, some lanes on the PCI-E connector is severely damaged, looks like there was a short of sorts and the card got damaged, they seem burnt, and as I wiped over them with my finger softly 2 of them came off... we did have hectic thunder storms last week in CPT and the card was installed in my old PC at the time. :/ Maybe it got lightly damaged and the moving from one machine to the new one and reseating it did the final damage. :/

Will find out from the insurance if they cover this. :( Otherwise it's R4500 down the drain. :/ Think RMA'ing it is out now. :(

FFFFFUUUUUUUUUUU...... seems I need a UPS or surge protector plug... we never get Thunder storms in CPT, now that one does hit, it fries my new PC. :(

That doesn't seem like thunder damage, that's another kind of damage or simply put CID.

Dude it really sucks that you are having such a hard time.

LoL WaRnoob. Reminds my why i went laptop.. Not ultra performance but takes away the frustration of getting a rig working.. Makes me feel i wasted that R20k on my last major rig!

PS. More the reason to get a UPS also! Mine was always trusty.. Need to install the bigger one soon! :)

Going to phone the insurance now and see..

Claim logged, they're just going to have the PC inspected and then let me know.. *FINGERS CROSSED*

Thanks buddy.. I am quite bummed out right about now.. BUT, at least it sounds like OUTsurance will cover this, there is an excess amount of R1200 payable now though. :(

But I suppose R1200 for a R7300 card isn't too bad.

Just hope they don't take forever to finalize the claim.

This last week just keeps on getting better, woke up feeling like dog poop this morning, seems with winter arriving, first present I received is a nice helping of the Flu. :(

That being said, it kinda helps as the insurance guys are coming to collect my PC tomorrow and said they should have the PC back to me on Friday as well as submitting their report to OUTsurance.

Please keep me in your prayers to the CUD gods that everything works out okay. :p

Noobie snacks, dude you are having the worst luck ever!

Hope you get sorted out, it is terrible seeing you like this, almost as bad as watching you die in BF.:p

Hahaha... yeah... it sux, thankfully the M14X is yet to let me down, I tweaked the graphics a bit and now I'm getting around 50 - 70fps as well (45 seemed too slow now that I got used to the high frame rates of the desktop rig).

Insurance people are collecting my PC today to test and submit report so hopefully by next week I'll have a new GPU.

Also got back from the doctor a while back, I've got flu and I'm booked off tomorrow as well, and with this rainy cold weather we're having, I can't complain, gaming in bed rocks!! :D

Lol you should get propper insurance, dont like Outsurance one bit, always extra for things like that card, and not really cheaper than other insurance companies....But yeah it is really bad luck

Hi all,

Update:

Insurance is replacing (Got the good news today): motherboard, RAM, CPU and GFX - rest of the components tested fine.

Getting same CPU, same RAM and it seems I'm getting another 7970 (Not sure on brand or model yet), so will probably sell it and buy a GTX680 instead.

Also HOPEFULLY getting either of the following boards (leaning more towards the Gigabyte, looks a bit nicer than the Asus, but Asus is Asus, so not sure. )

ASUS P8Z77-V

or

Gigabyte Z77X-UD5H

Please give me your thoughts on the boards please. :)

Im with you on the 680... (drooool)

as for which mobo.. hmm tuff decision, the asus has some nice features with the built in wifi and seems to have a better sound card.. BUT that gigabyte has the msata board.. i personally think its much more usefull cos then you dont need to loose any of your precious system SSD space to take advantage of Intel smart response.. they both nice so cant go wrong either way i recon..

Yeah buddy.

If I have a choice it'll be the Gigabyte as I like the look of it more, will tie in with my build better. :) mSata is also nice.

P.S. only saw your 600T build now. VERY NICE. Commented on the thread as well. :)

With the admission from Nvidia about limited stocks, and stocks being largely entry level GTX 680's, it is rather pointless the endeavor to persue a 680 when Nvidia are professional at being a let down. You can save yourself a ton of cash, pick up the Sapphire Toxic OC edition 7950 card which is by and large the best value for money card out there, overclocks like a beast and when you don't use it, AMD zerocore technology is beyond believable, and makes Eskom proud.

You had a bad experience with a card that may have a) been bought broken or b) as you said lightning damage or whatever it may be.

Top end card vs mid-to-high end? The GTX 680 will eat the 7950 for breakfast, even if it is a reference design.

Yeah Sari...

I've done some thinking and I'm rather going to keep the 7970, but as I stated, if it gives me as much as one issue, it's gone - hopefully this one behaves itself better than the previous one - in hindsight this card froze up even in my 1366 rig, hard lock ups forcing me to reboot the machine.

Hopefully it was a faulty unit and not a 7970 thing.

As Oj0 said, if I'm getting rid of the 7970, it will be for NOTHING less than a 680.

It just seems funny to me that all those with 7970's have theirs working at full tilt without any fuss and yours gave issues and now you say its not just your new platform but also the old 1366 platform, that to me suggests something happened to the graphics card before or after you bought it, considering that even if you sold your brand new HD 7970 you will not get great value back and certainly its not worth the going along to Nvidia at this point with the lack of choice.

If you want the best of the best, you need a GTX 680. What do you mean by lack of choice? A card is a card, these 680s are pretty damn quiet even at full load, so there's no NEED for a custom cooler. Unless you're heavy into overclocking you also don't need stronger VRMs, so am I missing something here?

Essentially he is getting a brand new equivilant model of a Radeon HD 7970 which I believe is the Gigabyte Windforce edition which is already a really good card, it is not like it gets rolled over either, it just seems like the decision and rage is based on one faulty card which may or may not have been his result. In another way, he has made a tremendous score here, new card to replace a card he got for a great price, and has a higher resale value. The jump is it because of that said experience or is he really believing that Kepler will give him significantly better performance?

In as much as the GTX680 is a high end card, the HD 7970 is also high end, its like peas in a pot.
