Hello folks

So I was playing around with the settings in the Unifi Contoller, specifically the Firewall & Security settings and it seemed like a good idea to try the 'Suspicious Activity' feature....

Is this threat management worth using though? Even if I use setting LOW, I take a noticeable hit on my internet speeds... I was about to lodge a complaint with my ISP when I remembered I had this setting on.

I am using this setup at home so there aren't any business critical devices that are on my local network. I use the small USG-3P router, so not the latest gen routers out there.

Thoughts?

For home use, I'd definitely say keep it turned off if you're network/tech savvy ( at my client sites i have it on naturally because end users haha )

Out of curiosity, do you have a cloud-hosted solution or pi/cloud key? ( sad about the 3P being eol at that price point )

On the USG3GP you can only turn on the traffic identification. As soon as you turn on the security features it becomes almost unusable. That's the reason I "upgraded" to the USG Pro - you can have it all on without issue. That is on 100/100 fibre at least...

Hi, had the same experience as you… being at home but in IT went super secure and blocked countries and did high security settings. Went from 200mb to like 40 when doing a simple speed test. I get it probably inspects traffic and stuff but didn’t seem useful for a home setup.

For piece of mind I would recommend just stick with the basic settings. And then run a pi-hole or something like that for DNS filtering. Works well security wise

I've only ever self hosted the controller. I started with a Raspberry PI but I'm using an old Intel Nuc now.
