Hey all,

My drive (WD 640Gb 2.5" WD6400BEVT) is running exceptionally slow and there are no errors found. I've used typical Windows tools, EaseUS Partition software and iObit Smart Defrag with no issues found. I've also defragged the drive.

Somehow the drive is super slow on write speeds. Same issue internally, on different PC's, different cables and external cases. Only this drive is being a b**ch. :/

Anyone have suggestions, etc. Would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks. :)

Check the hddSentinel results?

I used another program and apparently the issue is: "C5 Current Pending Sector Count: 32" - this is the "Caution" error I get.

Currently I'm doing a full format. Says this could work and it looks like it's going to take 100 hours+ because it's so slow 😂

I haven't used Sentinel and don't want to install it and run at the moment. I googled the issue and apparently trying to realign the sectors could work.
They recommended a few things with realigning the partition, and a few other things, which did not work.

Sounds like it's time to chuck away this drive xD

Scratch that, it's actually picking up speed and looks like it might be working. Was on 12 hours elapsed an hour ago at around 12% and now it's on 16.53%.
Hopefully this is good news :)

If you do end up using it, don't store critical files on it. Once a drive starts doing funny things it should be seen as no longer reliable
Files are mostly kept off-site anyway.

In case this doesn't work, does anyone have any other possible suggestions...except for burning the thing?!

A few articles have said that. But who knows?! It's an old drive and a spare so there's no reason to give up just yet :p
Imo not worth it to even keep as a spare. XD problem is the day you forget it's a dodgey drive and you store critical data on it and it dies.

No. It’s dying. Do not rely on a cheap, easy to replace item.

Spend the monies and replace it.
