Show us your rigs! (and your cable + peripheral management)

  • Thrustmaster T-GT2 base
  • Sparco wheel
  • Some Thrustmaster pedal base
  • 55" Samsung 4k 120hz TV
  • Playseat thingy
  • Woolies trollie
I'm using a fibre HMDI and active USB cable to and from the TV/rig and PC. It works excellently!

The lightning makes everything look so cozy! That wheel rim gives me fomo...

Can you give some more info on the "fibre HMDI and active USB cable". I would prefer to move my PC back to my office and run a cable(s) to the rig in the living room.

Haha yeah, we were trying to go for a cosy look with the lighting at night :D
The wheel is nice but the Alcantara is now just matted around the handles... but nothing a pair of gloves won't fix!

I bought my HDMI cable here. It's simply a long HDMI cable. Just ensure it can output your resolution and hz.
I'm using this one, but it's out of stock (bought it for R980 a year ago). The 50m one is available though for not much more. Both handle 4k@120hz or 8k@60hz. The other ones available handle half the bandwidth - 4k@60hz.

The USB cable is 10 meters. This is the one I'm using. If you need longer than that, you'll need something like this USB adapter and this guy to link the long cable to the USB adapter. What's great about the adapter is - it has a USB C port for extra power to the adapter. So you can plug in something like your phone charger to power the devices connected to it. In my case - I'm sommer using a power brick for more juice - just in case as I don't want disconnects mid-race. I connect my wireless keyboard, headphones and sim rig to that adapter and all works peachy.

Thanks dude! I have some planning to do. Would be great to have the PC in the study.

That brake pedal print

Mind sharing where you find the files?
That specific pedal is found here, but I think it can be done a lot better...

Everything else is drawn by me. (Not sure if that's a good thing...) I will have a full writeup sometime later this week on what Iv'e done with my extrusion rig.

I think this is better:
(Currently printing a revision before posting to the world wide web.)

What sort of flex do you get on the printed pedal? Id love to get one printed but worried itll break quite easily with the heavy spring installed on my set of SRP's 😅

Should probably put 'Use Sparingly' on mine. 😆

I'm running the strongest spring and elastomer in the 'accessory kit' in my SRP pedals, and the 3D print has held up fine. I will try the new front plate tonight, but I don't expect any issues. 3D prints are surprisingly strong with compression forces.

Drop me a PM and I will print you one if you want. You just cover PUDO.

You guys are gonna hate me

My setup is even more scuffed now

:D

Yeah oops :D

Before buying I knew some of the rigless issues I'd have, and slowly figured out what to do.

So enter me buying the CRP pedals, and to my surprise it doesn't actually move my chair back! I printed TPU feet for my chair a while back, and it seems it has surprising grip levels. I had a plan with straps and aluminium mounts and everything, but it isn't necessary to link my chair and the pedals anymore.

The other main issue that I expected was the pedals tilting backwards on braking. And indeed it did just that. So enter me making a bracket to compensate. An angle iron with two flat bars going up about 330mm, and PLA spacers.

The angle iron stands about 3mm away from the wall skirting, and when I brake it moves firm against it. The movement adds preload to the bracket, making it be stiff so that the pedals don't tilt. Not ideal, but it's what I have to work with. Keeping a foot on the heel plate also keeps it against the back, but if you lift your foot it moves back. The spacers were iterated, ending up at 32mm plus the thickness of the little felt pads. The spacers go against the wall, and they are higher than the height at which you press against the brake, giving good anti tilt behavior XD

I also made little feetsies for where the countersunk screws bolts the angle iron to the plate, and then also for the heel side I made bigger feet to compensate for the angle difference because of the added height at the back. All with felt pads too.

I know how I can improve this still, but honestly it works and I'm too lazy to basically remake the whole thing with triangulation and stuff. It moves much less than my Logitech pedals moved, all while having MUCH higher braking forces applied, so I'd say it is better than expected!

I'm enjoying the pedals so far, so I'd say I'm happy with the purchase. But I still know I need a rig, but that's out of the equation for the moment still.

How i wish it was a motion rig....

ITs bass shakers
What base are you planning on mounting on that monster. And where did you get that bracket for the base?

I recently moved up to DD2 and bought a bracket but I'm not happy with it...

I have a Moza R9, FSR Wheel and SRP Pedals...

All the money you guys spent on rigs you could be in actual cars racing.
You can sim all the cars, on all the tracks. You can learn to track, learn race craft for hours on end at any point during the day or night... There is literally no reason not to have a sim if you enjoy driving or racing.

So many actual pro drivers also enjoy sim racing. Most teams also use sims to focus on certain skill or try new strategies etc.

I don't understand why you would be hating on sim racing? Buy a rig and join us!

Ive had two, Didn't end up enjoying it as much. I felt like the sim world is perfect race cars with perfect track conditions. No mechanical failures or any real world issues to deal with.

Plus 30-40k again I can rather use to complete my widebody and new wheel setup.

Many guys who race with us do the sim thing, Not hating on it. Just struggle to get the logic of I can't afford to race a real car but you spend 100k on a setup. That is all.

Surely it isn't that much a struggle to get it though?

How much do you spend a year vs how much track time do you get? Fuel for track car, fuel for the car to trailer the track car to track, trailer to take car to track, tires for car, brakes for car, fix whatever kaks when you have an oopsy, fix whatever kaks when someone else have an oopsy, race fees, licenses, track fees...

A one time investment into a simrig vs keeping a track car running every weekend is a not really comparison.

~50k in on a rig + PC. You spend 10+ hours a week in a sim and sell it after a few years for ~50% what you paid.

And you can get into your simrig absolutely any time you want and have a lekker race within an hour.

I understand that, But for me it doesn't match doing it for real. I don't argue the fact it's cheaper than actual racing.

For me the fear factor is extremely lacking in the sim, But once again each to their own.

I tried on several occasions to get more enjoyment out of the rig but it never feels as good as doing it for real.

The whole of last years season probably set me back 50k in consumables and parts. With fuel and meth being the highest contributor.

Tyres and brakes last very long and aren't that expensive.

Fair enough, I hear you. I don't believe it matches real racing either. I think a lot of aspects get close to it, but it doesn't match it for me either. I think you can definitely use it as a 'tool' like the pros do to figure some things out, but eventually you will have to go 'test' and 'apply' what you learned in the sim on the road.

What it does simulate for me, is the racing. I am lucky to get the same type of thrill in the sim as on a track when fighting for a position or space, etc. And I get to do it for hours on end, any time I want. I also get that it is not the same for everyone, and some people simply won't get the same 'fun' out of a sim.

If you want to race a real car, and you get an expensive sim you are missing out on the real thing. But for most people in the sim racing hobby, I doubt they would've bought a race car if they did not buy the sim.

PS. Once you go meth.........
