Talking about it, I never really understood the need for sleep tracking... OK, I get a graph of how long I was in deep sleep, light sleep, REM, and that I got up at 3:08 AM to take a leak... Like, duh - I know, I was right there :)
What's now useful about all that info (besides being amused how smart is my watch)?

I think it's mostly useful when you don't regularly get a good nights sleep. Then you can start changing things you do before you go to bed and see if it has a meaningful impact the next day. You might not immediately notice an increase of 30min in deep sleep over 1 night. Then you think that whatever you changed has no effect.
For most things you would need to do some research to know what the numbers mean, though. Like your heartrate during exercise. If you don't know what your average heartrate should be for your age group, then you might as well not have that as a feature.

I do think you should ask Google the above before you ask the carb community.

Woo-hoo, hold your horses, bro - I don't think it's worthy losing sleep over ;)

I was honestly trying to Google a while back, I thought since I already have the tool and if it's useful - why not?
I also remember I didn't find anything conclusive, or backed by any serious medical profession. It was all like "if you don't have enough or this or that, try going to sleep earlier, or don't eat so much before bed". Homeopathy stuff.

Yeah sorry didnt mean it in an antagonizing way.
It is quite difficult to find credible articles that references actual research, yes. A lot of snake oil going around.
EDIT: Which supports the idea that seeing how much and what type of sleep you get is beneficial, because you can then determine what works for you, and not what an internet doctor said should help.

My original comment was admittedly a bit dickish - so I can see how it would annoy someone who follows, apology for that...
I did notice the pattern when my sleep ends with REM, I can remember my dreams - otherwise I can't, so there is definitely something in it.
But do post a relevant link, if you have - I would be interested to check it out.

Actually only getting my first smart watch next week, so will do some proper reading once I have some data to compare.

So. the new GW4's out and it's goodbye Tizen.
Might just be time to retire my original Galaxy Watches.

I was never really tempted by the GW3 (there was of course never a GW2 for some reason), but this one has a few new features that makes me think it's time to upgrade.

Thoughts?

Sorry bro, I'm still on honeymoon with the love of my life (Garmin Fenix). She gets jealous when I look at the others

But me thinks it's a huge risk for Samsung, as most other watches based on Wear OS were meh. Tizen was a leaner OS, which translates to less need for processing power, and in turn longer battery life. I hear anecdotal reports from early testers that they had to charge every day (on AOD). idk, I wouldn't rush into it.

Actually the switchover to Wear OS is the one thing that attracts me to it the most.
Most of the Tizen apps I've tried were rubbish and were uninstalled almost instantly. It's been years and there are still no official companion apps for many of the most popular Android phone apps. Opening it up to Wear OS apps might just broaden the watches' appeal.
That said, I've tried the Huawei Watch 2 and hated it - no rotating bezel, no widgets and a couple of other things that I just found weird compared to Tizen and of course no Samsung Pay. It appears that the GW4 has a Tizen like UI on top of Wear OS, which might just be the best of both worlds.
Daily charging isn't a deal breaker to me as I'm used to putting mine on the charging cradle every night. I have no interest in sleep tracking. Having been an insomniac for most of my life, I don't need a watch to tell me that I've had a :poop:y night's rest. I've tried it once many years ago with a Gear Fit2 and I couldn't even fall asleep with the thing on my arm.

At least it finally has more storage (even though 16GB isn't much, it's better than 4GB...) and all of them now have 1.5GB RAM, which is the same as my LTE GW, but the BT ones at least have it now too.

Enough of a difference from the original GW to at least give it a try, unlike the GW3 where Samsung basically took the GW and just made it uglier (I know looks are subjective; I never really cared for the protruding buttons, which I could just see snagging on everything).
In my humble opinion anyway.
