Hi there Carbies,

I am looking for a photo booth operator. This position has long-term potential and most of our operators have been with us for over a year, and some almost 3 years. We are looking for someone who will be with us for at least a year. Our operators are a crucial part of the business as they are the face of our business.

Requirements:
  • Must have own car and valid drivers’ license. This is non-negotiable, as you will have to transport the equipment to venues.
  • Must be based within Johannesburg.
  • Must be physically capable of carrying and handling fragile equipment that weighs between 20kg and 25kg with care.
  • Must be comfortable with computers/tech, as you will sometimes have to troubleshoot problems on the computer or camera. This is Carbonite, so I am sure that this isn't a problem. 😁
  • Must be available on weekends and some weekdays (not regularly).
  • Must be comfortable driving longer distances (up to and sometimes over 100km) and driving at night. Most of our events take place within Johannesburg itself, but many of our events are weddings, and these venues are sometimes further out and can be on dirt roads. We don’t often operate further than 100km outside of Johannesburg, but there are exceptions. Most events are night-time events, and you will have to drive home late.
  • Must be punctual and extremely reliable. You will have to be on time at every event, no exceptions.
  • Must be neat, presentable, friendly, and polite.
  • Must be responsive on phone and message. We need to confirm operator availability when we get event enquiries and waiting for a slow operator response could mean losing an event.
  • Must understand the importance of a great customer experience and take it as seriously as we do.
Job Description:
  • Pick up the equipment from our warehouse in Randburg and transport it to events.
  • Set up the photo booth at events and engage with guests, making sure they have a great time in the photo booth.
  • Troubleshoot any issues that arise with the computer or camera.
  • Takedown the equipment and pack up.
  • Return equipment to the warehouse in Randburg.
  • Training will be provided
Payment:
  • Operators get paid as follows per event:
  • R100 set up fee (you will arrive at your event 1 hour prior to the booking start time to set up the equipment)
  • R150 travel (or more, if the event is outside our normal operational radius, your travel will be calculated per km)
  • R150 per hour for each hour you work at the event
= R550 for a local 2-hour event – this would be the minimum payment you would receive as 1-hour events are the shortest hire we offer.
= R700 for a local 3-hour event
= R850 for a local 4-hour event
Etc.

  • Our most popular events are 2 and 3 hour-events.
  • There are longer events, ranging from 3 hours to 8 hours, but these are less frequent. You will always be paid R150 per additional hour.
  • During peak times, most operators do multiple events a week/weekend.
  • Your earning potential will be determined by your availability.
Please send me a PM if you are interested.

Thanks!

This can get you in hot water. There is a difference between an operational requirement (such as a drivers license) and discrimination (this is "ageism"). There are sort of legal ways around this, but you're not allowed to advertise discriminating based on age, gender, religion, political views, HIV status, marital status, race, etc etc etc.

Also keep in mind that once an employee, even if casual, passes a threshold of hours worked per month (24 hours per calendar month), normal benefits legally apply (paid leave, sick leave, etc), and you will also need to register them with UIF. If working hours are less than 24 per calendar month, you can skip on all these benefits.
