Old laptop screen - want to use it for Samsung dex

I have a old laptop screen, and 2 x samsung s10`s with broken screens.

After stumbling upon the DIYperks YouTube channel yesterday i saw that you can repurpose the old screen buy getting a control board.

But before i commit to this exercise, i was hoping someone has done something similar and if it worked .

The screen i have is a b1565xw01

Will the above setup (old Samsung s10 and above lcd work with Samsung dex)

I Want to use the above setup in my garage when doing diy tasks to watch YouTube tutorials and google a bit and listen to background music.

I tried to use the phone with usb c to usb converter, then usb to hdmi but the tv could did not register the phones output or nothing was displayed.

Below is a link to the video that got me thinking about the setup. He uses a VSdisplay usb C type controller which will work ideally but the cost i much higher than the pcb postwd above (unless if someone knows where i can get a cheaper one)

Ideally i want something that charges the phone and powers the pc board, i dont want the phone to drain without charging while using. Maybe even add a powerbank like in the video.

Another thing is i would like to add a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse without a dongle as there is no place to plug in the dongle.

Any other suggestions for a garage pc would be appreciated.

Try find a friend or someone nearby with a Samsung monitor

& also you would need to get something along these lines

Never tested with a controller board myself, but if you can get the above to work i don't see why not

Otherwise just use a monitor

If you have a tv available there already any usb c hub like mentioned in the post before it should work. Or source a new monitor, probably will be similar cost to getting the board + shipping + duties/vat to import.


How broken are the phones screen? Can you check if dex is enabled or is it the screen completly dead? Would also make sure it’s fully updated in terms of software.

Bluetooth mouse and keyboard should work out the box. (If phone screen is working) otherwise you will need to use a wired mouse (which the hub mentioned would work fine) to pair the Bluetooth devices while running on dex.

Simplest way if u haveva tv there is a cast device. Even a cheap chinese one will work
