Hey guys, hope you are all well.
So, my new Romoss Zeus 65W power bank smells like glue or adhesive from the ports, I picked up on the smell when I was checking out the ports, it smells like glue I think, or maybe nail polish remover but I am not sure if that's just my brain worrying that one of the cells is leaking and imagining things.
My wife said its more like a glue smell, with maybe a hint of a nail polish remover smell or a metallic smell.
Should I assume the worst and ask for a replacement and avoid using it?
Or use it for now and see what happens?

Am I being paranoid?

I'm almost sure if the battery was leaking or one of the cells had an issue that the BMS would have freaked out over it. It could just be the adhesive used inside getting a bit warm when being used
Thanks man

Romoss is one of the cheapest Chinese “no name” brands recognised in SA. It’s likely nothing more than actual adhesive.

Thanks man, so for now I will try not to worry too much about it and ignore it.

I'm returning this thing, the smell is definitely getting worse and smells like nail polish remover and a bit sweeter than before. Any recommendations for a power bank for the Ally that doesn't break the bank?

Does this mean they are an unreliable brand?

Lithium fire = Angy hellfire.
I'd ask for a refund or better yet get credit and buy something else.

On a side note, anyone heard about the epidemic of exploding Chinese EV's? If you google it the headlines is like "Chinese EV market is exploding" which quite literaly true but not what the article meant to say haha

Just sniff it like my other Durban brothers :p
Will make your gaming sessions more enjoyable
So that's how watsie became who he is 🤣

But yes, this is most likely the adhesive melting. Normally its that very thick black silicone type glue used (sometimes a white colour) that is used to attach a heat sink to the case (thinking of a laptop charger internals) but it might also be a capacitor that's started to leak. Send it in for warranty / RMA claim. The last thing you want is a lithium in your pocket going nuclear (especially a large power bank that size of a stick of C4)

Yeah, I've boxed it up and I'm gonna drop it off at takealot when I get a chance. I don't want to play games with a spicy pillow lol.

Definitely, I'm returning it, I'll see if I can't get a decent Anker one from somewhere

Romoss isn't a no name brand, it's widely recognised and sold all over the world.

@ The op you are probably just smelling the remains of the plastic injection process and whatever other glues they use to put it together, I know the smell you are referring to and it's almost certainly not leaky cells. Romoss make some of the best battery banks, you shouldn't have any issues with it, I have some that are over 10yrs old and still working flawlessly albeit at lower capacity.

Hey nothing wrong with a bit of zest in your life 🔥

Most likely its just a faulty unit if at all. Get it RMA'ed and get a new Romoss (I have never heard of them giving issues at all.

I put no-name in inverted commas for a reason - when it comes to quality, Romoss is as close to no-name brand as you can possibly get without wiping the label off the product. The case is pretty and everything, but that's where it ends. Being recognized world-wide doesn't make something GOOD. They're certainly not in the same league as eg Anker, and I'm not even talking about the fakes (which are downright dangerous).
