Hey,

Trying this as a last resort. I used to have Rain and had no issues, I since then switched over to fibre with Webafrica and have a strange issue now.

I run a Mac for my daily job and then Windows for my side gigs. Using the new router (One of those Zyxel ones) running on fibre, my Mac has severe stability and connection speed problems, intermittent connection basically. Windows and mobile phones are fine on the Wifi so must be something to do with the Mac and the settings on the router.

I've tried the following thus far:

1. Switch off the 5Ghz band on the router
2. Change the channel of the router from 20/40 to 20, this caused it to be slightly better on the Mac but caused my Windows device not to work anymore,
3. Hard reset the router and fibre box
4. Multiple tickets with Webafrica
5. Tried playing around with stupid things on the Mac I found on the internet
6. The golden switch everything off and on again

I now have an older router hooked up, its a lot more stable however still facing extremely slow Wifi speed on the mac and slight connection drops.

I have a 50/50 line and am getting ~5mb on the Mac.

At a point where I am ready to revert back to Rain as that worked flawlessly.

Appreciate the help in advance.

Have you tried plugging the Mac directly into the router to see if the speed is still bad?
Before making a drastic decision like stepping backwards from fibre to mobile connectivity, why not try a different router first? Chances are the fibre connection is just a DHCP setup, so any router you plug into the fibre box will get an IP address and give you internet.

I might be way off the mark here, but see if someone has a router they're no longer using that you could try for a couple of days first.

That's exactly what I have done, I hooked up an older different router which did improve the situation but its still nowhere where it should be.

The issue with the Mac is I don't have the LAN dongle. Starting to wonder if its something to do with the security of the connection on the new router.

We have similar issues with some of our clients that use apple devices at times,
Now we use mainly mikrotik routers client side, and 9 out of 10 times enabling EAP/Tkip
on the wireless security sorts it out. No idea why, it doesnt make much sense.

It seems like some of the wifi chips apple use are spotty at best, from mikrotik, tenda, ubiquity and TP-link
its always apple giving connectivity issues.

Now I really dont know Zyxel or it settings so I'm not sure howmuch this info will help but thought I would add it anyway.

M1 Macbooks seem to have issues with wifi. The solution I've found was disabling bluetooth and airdrop.
