i was just curious as to whether anyone here has made their own waterblock, and how they did it.

I did. Took a square of copper 6mm thick and cut out the pattern that I designed on a milling machine, and made a cover for the block out of perspex. I have a picture for you of a similar block, but mine had a much simpler flow pattern. But overall it looked the same :

STINGER WATERBLOCKS Veri naaice. Some of the best you can get. Not mine, and will probably never make my own, but just thought they were too nice not to mention.

newklear, where did you get the copper?
i was researching making my own,but i could only find copper bars by the meter....

Got it from the university, but I know they buy copper plates from here : Copper Plate
I can send you a dfx milling machine cutting file for the copper block if you don't want to spend a whole weekend in front of a manual milling machine, lol

hmmm, interesting...the only problem i had was that i didn't have access to much heavy machinery...that was the other big reason as to why i didnt do it.
with the perspex to you made, did you glue several pieces together or did you rout/mill out a thick piece?

Making a block is easy.
Pm me the size of copper you want and i can get you a piece

The perspex is milled from one solid piece. Ensures no leakes etc. The reason why I used perspex as a cover is because it is cheaper, easy to work with and you can drill your mounting hole where you need them. Someone on the forum will have a milling machine, just ask

hmmmm, well i was only thinking about it....
i am looking at buying some some old blocks.
its sounds fun,and i was just looking to see how other people did it (and if any of them did it with the primitive tools that i have...)i'll probably get round to it one day.

Speak to Do0bs...
I myself have made 3 waterblocks from scratch
He made one for his NB but said performace was not too good
I havnt got around to testing mine yet
PM me if you want some more info :)
