I just built my PC, clean windows and driver installs, and the audio out to my headset and audio in through my mic is really really low. Struggling to game or chat at all, can anyone more knowledgeable than me help?

Specs: Ryzen 5 1600AF, 2x8GB Crucial Aegis 3000MHz RAM, Asrock A320M-HDV, Gigabyte RX580 8GB

Step 1 is to check volume levels in the volume control panel - Settings -> System -> Sound -> Sound Control Panel (on the right). Then select the sound device you're using -> Properties -> Levels. Try increase the level of the headphones and mic (which is in the Recording tab) and see if that helps. You may want to increase the boost on the microphone as well.

It is also possible that the headset has a physical volume slider or knob somewhere on the unit or the cable. My new headset had one and volume was also very low until I found the knob, I had no idea it was there.

All the sliders are at 100%, my dial on my headset is also at 100% (Sennheiser GSP302). I had a 2600k + Gigabyte Z77 mobo, and everything was fine on there. My main volume control used to just live at 50%

Test the headphones with your phones 3.5mm jack if it has one. If its still soft then the issue is with the headset otherwise the issue is with the motherboard. I checked the impedance rating for the GSP302 and it should run on pretty much anything without requiring a headphone amplifier.

I'll double check with my phone today, but I'm pretty sure it's something else because I used it with no issues on my previous PC. I assumed it was just a low quality codec in the mobo, but I'm hoping I'm wrong 😂😂

Next step - you said you installed drivers. Did you use the drivers from the mobo's support page? Or just let Windows Update do its thing?

Whichever of the two you did - try the other one, and see if that helps.

Then maybe try google "Asrock A320M-HDV low volume issue" and see what comes up.

I let the windows update run first when I did the clean Windows install, it didn't work at all; Windows tried sending the audio to my monitor 😂 After that, I installed the drivers from the mobo support page after I updated the bios

UPDATE: Bought a USB-to-Analogue DAC and the volumes are better and the sound is clearly. I have no idea where the actual problem is, but I guess I've got a fix for now. Gonna leave the thread open for a while, if anyone has the same or similar issue, or knows how to fix it, let me know please 😄
