Genuine question, aren't these free to use? How do people end up with them? The only routers I've had from Rain have been snatched back by their courier the day the service ends. Or did they used to sell them outright?

This isn't a comment about the op's router but as far as I know some early 5G Rain contracts you could buy the router outright but the majority of them are free to use routers and hence still owned by Rain. Some people do not return the free to use routers and rather sell them but these router eventually get blacklisted. It's pretty hard to find an unlocked 5G router in South Africa, I don't know why, 5G isn't that new.
