Hey guys,

I'm really struggling to get my head around this one and I'm an ex network engineer, lol

So currently I have a 200 Mbps fibre from a SP into my house. I'm using a router that doesn't support NETFLOW but I want to know what my daily usage and uptime is as I am seeing some intermittent 10 second packet loss and VPN disconnects. Every time I see this its basically to late to investigate as utilization dropped by then and the link is stable again.

I'm looking for a hardware device similar to a Meraki SD WAN BOX that can track the utilization and packet loss but that's completely stand alone, meaning you dont need to configure the service in the cloud on another Meraki box.

I've done many Google searches but I always see software that needs to be installed and seeing that my router does not support NETFLOW this will be pointless.

Do need a firewall to see this info?

Thank you in advance.

Maybe try Sophos UTM. Has great capabilities as well as monitoring and logging. Might just get you visibility into your issue.

You could also try Pfsense and have it act as the router/gateway between your current setup and entry point.

I've had mixed results with PFSense but this was a good 7 years back.

Jeff Geerling got a nice project that uses a Pi:

The Internet Pi runs Pi-hole for DNS privacy and ad-blocking, and Prometheus and Grafana to provide Internet connection monitoring dashboards.

That's a super nice gesture bud. Thank you so much but I would like to buy one if you could maybe help get one for a good price?
