Help needed with RAM

Hi ppl,

I have 3 sticks of ram.Each one 8GB. Two 8gb are identical while the other is different. Can i use the 3 sticks or should i stick to 2 identical sticks.
Motherboard is a MSi b360m bazooka. I have read that XMP must be enabled but this option cant be enabled. Games are lagging when the 3 sticks are installed.
Is there anyway around this by manually OC ram(never did this before so any suggestions would help)
cpu z gave me 1067MHz on each stick when both and when all three sticks installed.

system specs:
i5 8400
rx vega 64
msi b360m bazooka

You aren't gonna get much/any benefit from that final stick anyways. So might as well not use it and only use the matched sticks.


Games are lagging because you're forcing the RAM to operate in single chanel mode by not using sets of sticks/using that third. XMP isn't gonna save you.

As far as I know it's all or nothing. But I could be wrong.
Increased lag suggests otherwise though.

Either way you shouldn't be saturating 16GB yet so that extra RAM isn't worth it. The most I've seen is 13GB. So even assuming Windows is keeping a gig for itself spare that's still 2GB headroom.

No. Dual channel is only available with two/four/six/eight modules.

You're effectively halving your memory bandwidth by running an uneven number of modules.

Yeah that's not what I said. I said forget the unmatched RAM stick, stick to only using the 2 matches ones. And then I explained why that wouldn't be a problem.

I will use your advise.What i mean is i will try and if it doesnt come right i will stick to 2 sticks as you suggested.

Or save yourself the effort and listen to @SCHUMI4EVER as he is correct xD there is no playing around to make it faster or work it just won't

aaah..i see my folly.I never wanted the one 8gb stick to be in a cold dark place therefore hoping for it to be used. but my worst nightmares have come true and that stick shall remain unused for a long long time

Um just sell it mate,this is Carb you are on.Then buy or trade for 2x 4gb sticks?
Besides 8gb sticks are sought after.

Or keep it as a spare. He's got 16GB at the moment so he's got enough.
