I'm looking to upgrade the CPU for my Gen 8 and bring in a Xeon e3-1220L v2 CPU and wanted to know if there was any demand for a group buy.

I estimate that the CPU's will land around R750ish [base cost + import charges + VAT, etc] and then add on the local courier from CPT to you.

That 1260 must run really hot. Opted for the 1220L v2 and there was a noticeable speed improvement-very happy with the seller (bought 2, in separate buys, both sent with Buffalo from eBay from HK)

pm if anyone interested, really easy and absolutely worth it.

It has a TDP of 45w vs the 35w of the original Celeron CPU, so not too bad.
Because mine sits on my desk next to me, I wanted it to be quiet, so I disabled Turbo. At 2.4ghz my fan rarely goes over 25%.

Ahh, okay 1265, not 1260. there are a few 12xx parts that have a tdp of 69w, like the 1240.

There wasn't any interest, so I went ahead and got one for myself. I *may* know a friend who has a e3-1220v2 spare. Actually buying it was super easy and the delivery was great, so happy to give recommended ebay seller, etc. If you're keen, PM me.

@quovadis good to hear. there are some horror stories of owners having to modify coolers to fit the gen8. i love my dremel, but keep it faaar away from any computer!




That is a proper upgrade from the celeron!

I ordered a Xeon E3-1260L with free economy shipping from Ebay on 01 March, was delivered this afternoon
Will be replacing my E3-1230v2 this weekend to lower the heat output, the E3-1230v2 was idling a bit high during summer with the passive cooling for my liking
