Howsit Guys,

I am looking for a good panelbeater around Sandton side or close enough to Sandton.
I am looking to change a front bumper but want someone that can colour match perfectly.
I checked out BB Cars coz the VW Approved however they seem far fetched with their price.
ABS Auto Body seemed more reasonable in price but want the car for 7 to 12 days for a bumper replacement which seems like a crazy long time.
Carelo Auto wants R600 just for quote which the other 2 places didnt require.
Any recommendations please? doesnt have to be VW Approved as long as they do a great job?

Probably the best panelbeaters in Gauteng are Eland Car and Truck, but they're all the way out in Randfontein.

I've used Dent Tech in Strijdom Park and I've been very satisfied with their work to date.

Carello Auto caused more damage to my Renault whilst it was there awaiting parts than what it arrived with. Ended up being a second insurance claim because of their indemnity, so fuck them, will never use them or recommend them.

Go up the drag to The Local @Kyalami - Mo's Car Wash also has a body shop. Speak to Ferdie, the owner. He repaired hail damage on my wife's car including replacing a few panels & the colour matching was perfect.

When I worked in rebuilding muscle cars we used Paint Shop in Randburg (Midek Paint now I think).

They always colour-matched perfectly. You could get the paint from them, then just ask any panel-beater to spray it for you.

Elite Autobody in Khaya Sand park did a good job on a Ford Ranger not too long ago.

I've always seen some very sharp looking cars at Metal Cross too I go there often as the Goldwagen is right across from their workshop.

By no means a solid recommendation, but a good suggestion to look for some more quotes.

Avoid Elite. I had a car repaired there once and I was happy but their work and service quality have declined appreciably in the past few years.

@Shamz, give Greenstone Autobody a try. Barry, the owner, is a car nut himself (owns a 90s Nissan Silvia with... some work done to it) and I've sent plenty of people their way. Not once has any one of those people been upset with the work his crowd have done.

will try Mo's, I believe I read google reviews very much similar to what you mentioned about Carello Auto.
Thanks for the recommendation

I dont mind this option but you still need a good spray painter.

some of the recent google reviews dont look great for Metal cross but I will get a quote and maybe pop in to see some of their work

My original plan was to fit a R Bumper to my car so I just needed the bumper sprayed but recently i sent my car in for its first service and VW dented the bonnet and front left fender which now will also need to be repaired/sprayed. They happy to use a panelbeater they usually send dealer cars to and also dont mind me sending the car were ever I want. They also will give me a car to use in the interim so I rather have all done one place one time. Its disappointing and unfortunate that this happened but nothing will undo the damage done.

What dealership was this?

VW Braamfontein.
I have used them since 2016 and this is the first time something like this happened. While this does piss me off I see no other choice but to respray the bonnet. Only concern is the bumper and now bonnet will no long be factory paint so not sure if that will be a significant affect on resale price.

If done properly, it shouldn't affect the resale. It's a fact that cars get minor scrapes and marks throughout their lives and any reasonable buyer would understand that. I bought a 2013 Swift Sport with 22,000km in 2015. I only found out during 2019 that the car had been in a minor bumper bashing which meant the bumper and bonnet needed a respray. But the work was done so well that only if you look at the car very closely can you tell that there was ever a problem. It certainly didn't stop me from buying the car and the bumper bashing has never affected the car's performance.

It's a bigger red flag if a car has 300,000km+ on its odometer but the bonnet, bumper and fenders have absolutely no marks on them at all.
