Hi
I hope you all doing well?
Its been many years since I had a camera in hand, or owned one for that matter. And with that in mind I was wanting to get back into bird and nature photography, purely as a hobby. Always been a passion, and still is. I dont have cash money to get a camera, so was wondering if anyone would be willing to trade a low shutter count Nikon or Canon dslr and lens for my Jamo 5 speaker package.

I had many a Canon camera over the years, and my first Nikon was a D300s, which was also my last. Color rendering on that Nikon was far superior to the Canons I had before that. Besides that, the amount of focus points the Nikon has, would come in very handy with avian photography. I was looking at a Nikon D300s with lens and acc, or similar Canon with lens and acc. realize I wont get a lekka super zoom lens with this request, so will be greatful for whatever I can get as a bundle. Not saying I dont want a super zoom LOLOLOL. Im based in Cape Town, Ravensmead and here is a link to my add on Carb.

Hope to hear from someone soon. Thanx in advance and enjoy the weekend.

I need one of those f1.8 or something lens for better astrophotography from YouTube gurus , I'm determined to catch ET hovering over the sky!

Go to Orms and buy a body cap for your camera and use that. There is a tutorial on Youtube on how to use the cap. Dont know what a low f-stop is going to do to the image though. Has a very narrow depth of field

Share a link to that video :D

Thank you Valheru, will get in touch with @RumMum
Hi. Nice hobby, so i will always say go for it. But, i can only advise on cameras, lenses, settings etc. I dont know anyone that will swap for speakers, but will ask around.
Avian photography is a bit more expensive than just a camera body and a good 50mm lens. You need at least a 400mm lens. (Unless u plan to mostly shoot tame birds, doves or dead ones....🤣 then a 200 will b ok)

I got a canon 1200D or something with magic lantern installed
Get yourself a canon 400mm non is f4 (cheapest) a sigma 150-600 (mid range) or a 400 2.8. I tried to get the ISS a few weeks ago, [800mm lens)but hell, something moving at 27000kmh and only visible for 2 to 5 minutes was damn near impossible.🤣

2.8 works perfectly for bulb exposures longer than 30 sec (i did star trails with open shutter for 2+ hours.

Wow that's incredible, I won't even attempt trying to catch the iss

Share your astrophotography with us if you wanna 😍😛

I got a 600mm telescope I'm going to use as a zoom lens as soon as i figure out which adapter mount i need to buy

Yep, avian is a bit more expensive than other types of photography. But hopefully for now just getting a D300s will be a step in the right direction. Its no Canon 7d, whch I had back in the day, but its more than a capable beginner dslr.

I would rather go with canon. 7d still awesome crop sensor. And a wider variety of good quality glass available used. (Read cheap and normally people that pay premium for glass, look after it very well.
You can probably get a 7d and 100 400 L lens for around R15 000 and up.
Personally, i would suggest the canon R7 (R24000) or R10 for around R12000 and a 600mm f11 prime. (Normally just below 10000 new.
Mirrorless is the way to go if you are prepared to splash a bit. And those cameras is a few steps ahead.

@RumMum Yes, the 7D mk1 is a very capable dslr, especially when compared to the Nikon D300S, which it knocks out of the water in every way possible. But I cannot afford to spend 6-7k on a low shutter count 7D, when I can get a low shutter count D300s for around 2k. Yes the lens will make or break the hobby, but at least I will have a foot in the door. I know Canon lenses are cheaper tha nNikon, also more available but for now, I can get away with the garden friends I have here, which aint a shabby selection. We got some weavers in the garden, or should I say the jungle, we also got some mouse birds, sun birds, Cape Robins, Cape Bishop, haadeda's and then the usual rock pigeon and pigeons. Occasionally a red Bishop. So quite a few subjects to keep me busy, all within reach of a cheapy lens.

So if anybody keen on trading a D300S and lens for a 5 speaker Jamo set, pls let me know
