Good Day Guys..

Please pretend I'm 12 and lived on North Sentinel Island till yesterday... 😅✌️🤞✌️🫰
I'm not to clued up with wH and consumption Watt etc...
So I just want to know, will the following work for me?
Aiming to outlast L/S if it gets real bad in winter, So hoping to get minimum 4h backup power from the UPS....

I am looking at getting Fibre installed at my place, Afrihost (ISP).
The router they supply is the following:
Router

Apparent Power usage is 6.1W..
Unboxing Review

The UPS I am looking at:
UPS
As far as I understand this will be able to power that Wifi Router 45w/6w = for 7h Approx?
is this correct?

Also these UPS units have solar power connecting ports?
So what will I need to have a panel fitted to this to charge it?

Thanks for your patience.
Regards

I have a similar unit.
I have my Mik, CPE and AP connected to it.
Sure my draw is a lot higher but i only use about 15% of max output and once that 4hrs hits, it struggles not to beep.
I have once of these that i am thinking of using to replace the current unit: Gizzu 242Wh Portable Power Station (Black & Green)

This will definitely be better for me during the possible 10+ hours of loadshedding we are expecting in winter.
With regards to your setup, do you not need to power your fibre termination box as well? Who's your provider? Vumatel?
I think its gonna cost you more to setup a solar charge planel than its worth tbh but then i am no expert.

Basically, what i am saying is, always buy bigger than you think you need, then you won't be disappointed.

Just looked at that panel, its crap expensive for what you getting.
I would just spend more money on a bigger unit and have a better run time.

Just my 2c worth

Vumatel is the supplier ja...
not sure what the Fibre Boxie itself will be pulling...

I want to try and get some solar power up and running, little by little, but all these terms and stuff makes my head hurt. hahaha...
You say you have a similar unit? Meaning? UPS?
also I have no clue what MIK,CPE and AP mean. hahaha...

Good Day Guys...

I am using the same UPS you have linked and get through 4 Hours of loadshedding with ease.

My setup is as follows:

Router: Mikrotik hEX - 12V 10W
Vumatel Fibre CPE: Raycore RC-CP9 - 12V 5.5W
WiFi Access Point: Mikrotik cAP - 12V 4W

Assuming Vumatel uses the same CPE for you and you are using the Router for a WiFI connection instead of an Access Point like I am, then the UPS you are looking at will be sufficient for 4 Hours of loadshedding, possibly even 6 Hours at a time from my personal experience with it.

Thanks, THat makes sense,
I am just looking to have the Fibre on and available for watch youtube or so, Will just gave the router and the Fibre Boksie pulling power from it....

Thanks for the reply, appreciated.

I have that same Gizzu, I haven't timed it but it think it lasts 4 hours by the skin of its teeth. I'm powering two 1.5A devices. So that is 36 Watts.

I use one of these lalela units: WIFI UPS R1818 LALELA

Keeps fibre ONT plus Ubiquiti Amplifi Modem/Router powered without any problems.

After a 4,5hour ANC lack of power kaka they are still at 50% charge.

Hi, I'm using a WiBox not bad, battery supplied gave in when we hit stage 6 earlier this year.

Replaced it with a gel version. if fully charge it runs up and till 9 hours had an 8 hour outtage once and it kept running, cheaper to replace the battery on these units as well. Also bought mine on a special from onedayonly once. There might definitely be better units, but thus far this one is working for me.

Get a Mikrotik with SFP port. Take the SFP out the ONT and put it in the MT, then ONT is longer longer required. You're welcome

Sjoe, with 36W pulled and it lasts 4h, even just barely, is good enough for me...

How long have been using the unit?
looking to get a feel for drop of power over time?

UNCLE!!!
Are you taking English there?? hahaha...
Mikrotik is a brand?
SFP is a type of connection?
ONT is the vuma boksie you connect to your wifi router?

What is the MT?

hahaha, I'm a mechanical ouk... hahaha

Power drops should be minimal since these boxes are all lithium batt based. Basically years before a small % will be noticed...

Sounds promising, Thanks....
Seems the Setup will work for what I need...

I have one of these to power my router & fibre box.

One of these

Good quality compared to the gizzu i had previously

It is a bit big compared to the gizzu but not by much

I got the smaller 8800mAh units on special in hindsight it was better as it doesn’t charge quickly.
For 2 hours of load shedding I never saw the units(1 for the router, other for ONT) drop < 75% and it easily handled 4 hours.

I later got the 65Wh Gizzu for the higher power output but I haven’t timed it.

Mikrotik or MT for short is a make of router.

Here is a example of one of theirs. SFP is a type of connection I guess you can say. The SFP housing/cage is that rectangle next to the power socket barrel plug.

This ↑ is the SFP module that slides into the cage and the blue LC fibre connector (for Vumatel, Openserve is SC) plugs into that hole by the blue bar. There is a SFP module in the Raycore fibre media converter or ONT/CPE (converts fibre to copper ethernet). Openserve doesn't have a SFP module though.
