a Thread for the more discerning kind of biker :p

Lets start with this:
- What bike do you have?
- What do you like about it
- What do you dislike about it
- If you could have any other bike what would it be?
- Your favorite weekend warrior place

And we can take the conversation from there, i'll start.
- 2011 KTM 200 XCW
- Very light and nimble, while still having some nice tractor pull for my low weight.
- NO ELECTRIC START FFS... The amount of times I have been too tired to move and then to have to kick my bike is slowly driving me crazy.
- Just a newer model 200 with electric start, but I might even be keen on trying the 150XCW that they replaced the 200 with, or I could go over to the dark side and try a 250 4T
- The Magoebaskloof mountains, somewhat close to my house and tons of fun with spectacular views.

- What bike do you have? - 2012 KTM 300 XCW
- What do you like about it - 2 stroke POWA band
- What do you dislike about it - Currently the e-start (happy button) doesn't make me happy XD but i have the upgraded starter arriving this week.
- If you could have any other bike what would it be? - Mmm, I'd consider going with an even lighter bike. The 300 is a monster
- Your favorite weekend warrior place - (on weekends) In PE, behind Rover race track in the bushes. In CT, either Zone 7 or Dust 'n Dirt.

Nice idea but I think the thread is useless without pictures

I dont currently have one but still want to drool

Ok, just to add some meat to the thread.

Lets start with this:
- What bike do you have? - Not an Enduro, but done done some offroading with my GS.
- What do you like about it - The fact that it can do a lot more than i expected such a big and heavy bike to do.
- What do you dislike about it - This adventuring thing can become expensive.
- If you could have any other bike what would it be? - Ok, so not a 300 Enduro but i would like a KTM 690 Rallye Enduro, or 1090 Enduro like Chris Birch
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k48gs_K2XAg

- Your favorite weekend warrior place - So far only found Rhino Park(MX Legends) close to my home.

Did the McCarthy 4x4 Cource at Rhino Park.

We have more or less the same bike mine is just a wee bit newer, but we are both stuck without a happy button :(
From 2012 on wards the 200's have electric start, but I am glad to see that I am not the only guy for which this is a problem haha.
I can live with the fuel consumption, but once you get into the rockier and tighter stuff and you stall after being in the saddle for a few hours then kick starting just gets a little old.

Btw if you don't mind me asking what do you weigh?

i know that feeling of sheer defeat haha. I would love to get a 200 with estart but i love my bike to much, got a great deal on it and it has almost all the bells and whistles (hyde swing arm guards, exhaust cage, radiator braces and fan, boil bottle etc.) but, ill probably get a 200 with a happy button next year.

im about +- 65kg at 1.74m

Lets start with this:
- 2009 KTM XCW 200
- Light, Agile and its a 2 stroke
- It broke my wrist but we still friends
- KTM 300 TPI
-1.) Chilled Day with Friends : Rihno Park
2.) Adrenalin filled day : DeWildt
3.) and Like @smallies Said - Clocolan area is a great area right next too the Lesotho Border (Images is of me and @smallies )

Yeah I am also considering waiting for my bonus month and hoping to find someone with a 200 with e-start that will do a trade+ cash maybe, otherwise I will sell my bike outright and buy a 2012+ model sadly we can only ever go up to 2016 models :(

The 150 XCW does look promising but I don't know :/
I would love to ride a 150 and my 200 back-to back to feel how they compare.
We are also around the same build and height, I am 178 72Kg+-
So yeah the 200 fits us like a glove.

Ok so, so far I count 3 forum members with KTM 200's, there might even be more :p
I am way to light for a 300, but I will admit I would love a 250XCW TPI

My dad on the left, me in the middle and my one brother on the right.

And here are a few photo's of a route we did close to Stevens lumber mill, its between Tzaneen and Polokwane, it also has a very Lesotho/Roof of Africa feel to it.

And this is why we have chain guards, its funny how on photo's it doesn't look steep at all, but that is a near vertical rock that you have to jump up, the Yamaha's chain guard came off.

damn, looks flippen nice.
Its always a problem with GoPro footage as well, looks like a childs playground on the video and meanwhile i worked my balls off to get up that "tiny" rock garden.
But i have to admit that a happy button isn't a really high priority at this moment, the 2 stokes starts soooo much easier than the 4T's, but it would be nice though.

you have a very clean 200 BTW man.

Eish

I remember the 1st time I was on a proper dirt bike. Friend's father handed it to me because I was driving a 650 at the time and of course he had his own agenda, Knowing that his 450cc race prepped dirt bike would give me a kick in the arse. That's when I learnt that dirt bikes are different animals entirely. Accelerating on dirt as fast if not faster than what my 650 could do on the road was exciting as hell until I was doing 160...... Dirt isn't a even surface but at least I had all the gear and just slid on the grass. Was winded and had some pains a day or so later but that was it.

I still remember the first time I had a chance to ride my dad's 450, he had a CRF450R it was a major leg up in power from the YZ80 I had, the power was intoxicating, but definitely not something you want for the type of riding we do, that motocross gearing is way too fast for the slow stuff, horses for courses of course.

Do yourself a favor and go and try a wide ratio gearbox enduro bike like a KTM XCW and go do some technical riding, its something completely different to just blasting 6th gear on dirt roads, who knows you might end up liking it more than driving on tar :p

Yeah the happy button probably feels like a bigger problem to me than it really is, you are right it does start easily, I think I am just getting too lazy :p

Thanks yeah, the bike is still in a good condition I think, it does however have I think 270+- hours on it now, I will take some more photos this weekend to add to the thread, we are doing another trip this weekend, not really sure to where yet exactly but its going to be fun.

well mine has 308.7 hours on the aftermarket hour meter, would be interesting to see how many hours was on the speedo before it broke:unsure:.
we are also going to a new place called wolwekloof this weekend, free entrance on Saturday and Sunday, hopefully the weather clears up before then.

BTW, if you ever want a black tank, pm me, i like the look of the clear one:D haha

More enduro riders than I expected

- What bike do you have?
18' 300 TPI
- What do you like about it
Goes forward quite quickly
- What do you dislike about it
Scratches

Dammit! You guys all have the wrong wheels on your bikes!

Lies! o_O

Although converting to a SM bike would be nice, its technically not an ideal road bike.
Much more viable to buy a factory produced motard then convert an enduro bike.

Not viable at all for the road at all not. But for the track, perfect!

- What bike do you have? 1991 Kawasaki KDX 125 with a bunch of mods
- What do you like about it? Everything, it's very easy to ride and work on.
- What do you dislike about it? The fact that I can't ride it because the front shocks are being repaired.
- If you could have any other bike what would it be? Maybe a KX125, unfortunately I'm a short MF and a KX is just too tall for me.
- Your favorite weekend warrior place? Zone 7 or Parklands Forrest.

Sup guys!

Ex hard enduro rider here. Roof done and dusted and multiple ewxc and low-enduro seasons behind me.

I now just ride for fun and to help and assist newer riders. I see this is a thing:

- What bike do you have? 2012 KTM 300, with LOADS of extras.
- What do you like about it? Whats not to like?
- What do you dislike about it? TRAX rear shock would be nice...
- If you could have any other bike what would it be? 2018 300 TPI.
- Your favourite weekend warrior place? Wild West.

Thread revival

So I finally got a bike again (after more than 10 years), only had it for 2 weeks now and really enjoying it

  • What bike do you have? 2008 Husky TC 510
  • What do you like about it? Everything
  • What do you dislike about it? Had a bad design with the exhaust and I burned myself badly but its fixed now
  • If you could have any other bike what would it be? Nothing at this time
  • Your favorite weekend warrior place? Have not been everywhere but did enjoy Legends MX (Rhino Park) and found a place called DirtTrax in Middelburg where they do the Farm Jam that I really enjoyed over the long weekend.
