Hi guys,

Would appreciate some help from all you tech gurus..

Just bought some Trident Z ram (2 x 8GB 3600Mhz CL18) to replace my 1x16GB stick and my Asus Tuff Z590 mobo won't boot if ram is in the A1 or A2 slots but will work fine in B1 and B2.

The orange Q-LED comes on showing that there is an issue with the DRAM but I don't want to believe that something is wrong with the board as I've had it since brand new and I've never had an issue with it until swooping out the rams.

I've tried all the slots with 1 DIMM and B1 and B2 post.
I've tried changing the voltage in increments from the standard 1.2V to 1.35V.
I've tried all the configurations (A1+A2, A1+B1, A1+B2, A2+B1, A2+B2, (B1+B2 (only one that works)) and as extra trial and error I've tried putting in the 1x16GB with 1x8GB and it posts, so all the dimms are working.
Also tried clearing the CMOS.

I've also tried putting the 3 sticks in all together and that doesn't post with the same DRAM error.

Is there anything else I can try it is my board the problem?🥲

"mobo won't boot if ram is in the A1 or A2 slots but will work fine in B1 and B2."
This is normal on most boards. Slots B1 and B2 are the recomended slots for 98% of consumer mobo's, when using 1 or 2 sticks of RAM :) EDIT: Checked the manual and you should be running slot A2 and B2 as @Oj0 correctly stated.

Respectfully, ignore what you want to believe and go off the data / troubleshooting results. :) ANYTHING can fail, no matter the brand, reviews, price or if its straight out the box. Shit happens.

"I've also tried putting the 3 sticks in all together and that doesn't post with the same DRAM error."

This should work but it can also not work, depending on factors like CPU, mobo or the mix of RAM.

Do this again and let it run for 5minutes, this will allow the mobo to do lots of memory training. I assume the old RAM was slower then the new RAM and if so, the mobo has to train the new RAM to run at the lower RAM's speed and timings, which can sometimes take 1-2minutes. Let it do its thing for 5min and see what the outcome is.

The board may reboot itself while memory training, just let it do its thing.

Your board should work with the following combos:

1 DIMM: A2
2 DIMMs: A2 + B2
3 DIMMs: Not advised, may not work at all
4 DIMMS: A1 + A2 + B1 + B2

Boot using the module that works, disable XMP, and manually set one of the lower JEDEC specs, eg DDR4-1866 14-14-14 or DDR4-2133 16-16-16. Try the new RAM in A2 and B2. If it POSTs, you can start increasing the speed while loosening timings until you get to the highest JEDEC spec (DDR4-3200 24-24-24).

If that still works, try enabling XMP. If that fails, you CPU might be a dud that can't handle the speed (extremely rare, but not impossible - the maximum rated speed of 10th/11th Gen is DDR4-3200).

If DDR4-1866-14-14-14 DOESN'T work with the new RAM in A2 + B2, you might have bad RAM. Try them one at a time in A2 - it's extremely unlikely that BOTH modules have failed.

Thanks for the feedback guys, will try it when load shedding ends😂

Hey man,

Sorry about that, forgot about this chat, 😅

Not sure why but I was running an i5 10400 before and was getting that issue, after upgrading to an i9 11900k, all the DIMM slots ended up working by default.

Did try all the suggestions above with the 10400 but nothing seemed to work, still don't have a solid reason as to why it didn't but at least all the slots are working now🥳.

Thanks for the advice guys!
