Hi All, I've just sold my car and I'm looking for a second-hand daily driver that's reliable and has decent enough power to take over cars on the highway. I drive between 90-100km per day so the car should be able to withstand that and not burn a whole in my pocket when it comes to maintenance. My shortlist is as follows (feel free to suggest anything else that you may have):

Honda Jazz 1.5 Sport CVT
VW Polo 1.0TSI Comfortline Auto
Hyundai Creta 1.6 Executive Auto
VW T-Cross 1.0TSI Comfortline Auto
Chery Tiggo 4 Pro 1.5 Comfort Auto

Year: 2019 or newer
Odometer reading: preferably under 60,000km as I plan to use if for a good few years
Warranty: Not too fussy about this
Service history: Yes
Condition: Excellent
Location: Anywhere in Gauteng
Price/including fees: Between R250,000 and R300,000 depending on the size and condition of the vehicle.

FYI

I have an almost brand new Toyota Rumion SX AT. 7500km on the clock. 2023 model. Midnight Black colour. Doubt you'll spend that much though

Hey bud, thanks for the offer. That car is a bit too big for me and probably out of my budget.

Bump with a bit of edits to the post

Check out the Suzuki Fronx. The AT version goes for about 300K but you’re getting a brand new car with a warranty and service plan, plus it’s reliable, very economical and loaded with tech:

Thanks for the advice! I chatted to a Suzuki sales person this week and he was saying that the Fronx isn't too much larger than the Baleno. It's more like a Baleno on stilts. I think they even have the same boot capacity. The road clearance is important for our roads so I am considering it.

Would you prefer manual or auto? I know traffic can be such a hassle with a manual.

I just got the Ford Fiesta 2021 1.0T Titanium in auto, fuel economy is great, I am getting 600km to a tank and a tank is R1000 (at today's rates) and having the turbo, it is nippy enough to do some highway overtaking.

You can get a newer than 2019 model with less than 30000km on the clock, inside your budget.

I know you can't be against ford, coming from the 2014 fiesta ST, this will be an upgrade from what you are used to

Spot on. You could also check out a used Vitara Brezza which is more SUV, less coupe. It's got the same engine as the Fronx but there are a couple key differences.

The Brezza has more boot space and bigger fuel tank but only has 2 airbags vs 6 in the Fronx and it's already end of life after 2 successful years in SA.

I'd personally go for the extra airbags considering how much driving you'll be doing.

Hi,

Work for a car dealership (mit mak motors) we have a couple options available if interested
1. 2018 hyundai creta 1.6 exec (69 000km) R273 000
2. 2018 honda jazz 1.5 elegance (30 000km) R239 900
3. 2022 chery tiggo 4 pro (14 000km) R314 900

We have various other options available should you be interested and we work with all major banks incase finance is required , all our vehicles are accident free and low mileage.

I'm preferably looking for auto because traffic is crazy. The Fiesta's look great and they are economical! I'm not against Ford but I was thinking about trying a different brand to see how they drive. Also, with the Fiesta being removed from our market, there is a (remote) concern about parts. No harm in looking though, I'll keep it in mind too.

A friend of mines has one and he said that it's a great car. Like you said, it's at the end of its life now and 2 airbags is a concern, especially with how dodgy some people are on the roads. Again, no harm in looking. Thanks!

The sales guy is just trying to sell you on the Baleno because he can get stock of it but can't get the Fronx because stock is so scarce at the moment.

Fronx is a much better car - better looks, more ground clearance, the suspension felt better to me and there's more subtle improvements (added material to reduce road noise amongst other things).

Damn I never thought about that, you could be right on that one. I'll have to test drive it to see what if feels like. Thanks for the advice.
