Main issue with Amazon is, if one of the drives DOA on arrival, good luck trying to ship it back to Amazon for warranty.

I am hopeful that once Amazon launches in SA, the warranty issues can be more streamlined.

I agree with you, it is a hassle. I have had to return a motherboard in the past. It cost about R300, to ship it back.

I even considered grabbing these Seagate X18 and X20 from BobShop, however those resellers are no good with their 2nd hand stuff.

Bought 2x Seagate 4TB on BobShop last year about this time, and the one didn't even want to spin...literally threw it in the bin for PikiTup for figure it out...
Here at least there are some 3 months to deal with it

Totally. Prices are good but 3 months is tight.
Mostly I wait for Black Friday or get notification from reddit data hoards when there are any good deals on drive that are new.

Renewed are okay, but support is limited to 3 months compared to 3-5 years you get on new.
