As you all probably know, we've just launched a local Litecoin eXchange in South Africa.

We're legit and, apart from the exchange, we're doing a bunch of other stuff with both sha256 (BTC) and scrypt (LTC) coins.
It's great to mine (I have myself) but unless we're all helping to grow the communities around the coins generally, the value of the assets (the coins) won't grow.

Same applies to bitcoin and bitcoin miners too obviously.

So I started this thread to discuss opportunities for collaboration between all of us to grow this and scrypt coins between us generally.

Any ideas are welcome; conferences, mining pools, reduced fee pro. trader accounts...whatever.

(Let's keep it to scrypt for now).

I must've missed that... where is the local exchange located? Url?

scrypt mining is for now the most profitable solution, but bitcoin mining is far from dead. I will have some very fancy, very expensive bitcoin mining equipment on my site. but the amount of GH/s will make it worth the investment.
will let everyone know as soon as i hear back from the manufacturer. :)

Will you be able to convert your Litecoins/Bitcoins into ZAR? Like you convert it to USD on MTGOX for instance?

That would be awesome if it can be done in a quick way, so that online merchants like myself can instantly get the cash needed after a customer pays with bitcoins.

The exchange does not work that way, exchange = middle man. You need a buyer for your coins to convert it into cash.

I do BTC mining by buying hashing power in the cloud: cex.io style.
It's just not viable and too cumbersome otherwise for me and there are some great cloud mining service out there.
I can't wait until we have something similar for litecoin. Conceivably that is something we would like to offer on the ice3x.com exchange too.
But it is down the track. Still got a lot to do on the main platform and the network isn't quite yet there for LTC, but man I would love to do that as a service.

That is more of a merchant service. I can put you in touch with local South Africa company. They are a 3rd party service (not with ice3x.com) but they go through our exchange and take care of everything for you. Email me if interested: tristanw (at) ice3.com

Have you considered taking Litecoin also? That is easy to do.

Interesting, tell me more.

Well, not right now as the exchange is less than a month old, give it a couple of months and I think you might be in for a treat.. will keep you posted
