Hi guys, so in the last few days my PC has been acting up, it started with crashes and hangs in both Linux and Windows. Finally, this morning I was greeted with a dreaded CPU Error LED. This is what I've tried so far:

- Performed a CMOS reset (via jumpers and CMOS battery removal).
- Swopped out the RAM modules from another system
- Swopped out the GPU
- Removed the GPU and using the onboard HDMI instead
- Removed all other components (HDD's etc)
- Reseated CPU and added new thermal paste

On power-up, the fans would spin up and remain at high speed and after a short while the CPU Error LED on the mobo would light up and stay on, while nothing is displayed on screen.

My specs are:
- CPU: AMD Ryzen 9 3900X
- Motherboard: Asus TUF Gaming X570-Plus
- GPU: MSI GTX 1080Ti
- PSU: Thermaltake 730W
- Case: Fractal Torrent
- CPU Fan: Cooler Master Hyper 212

The system has never been overclocked or messed around with as it is my development PC and I can't afford it having issues.

Everything has been running fine for 3 years, but now that I'm past the warranty it seems my luck has run out. Now, I can try to buy a second hand 3900X or perhaps a second hand or new 5900X (which I believe is compatible with this motherboard) but I'm not sure if the motherboard caused the CPU to die and whether in fact the motherboard itself also has problems. So I would like to try out the CPU in another motherboard or another CPU in my motherboard but I don't have compatible components at hand. I live in Somerset West in the Western Cape and I'm wondering if someone knows an IT company or person in the area that can potentially help me out to see what is really broken. Obviously I don't want to damage someone else's equipment in the process either.

If I can't get help I'm going to have to buy a new CPU, motherboard, CPU cooler (if not an AM4 CPU) and possibly a new power supply and it is something I can't really afford at this point.

If anyone can make any suggestions I'd really appreciate it!

So I was lucky to find a repair technician that had a spare 3900X which he tested in my motherboard and that one worked fine, which confirmed my 3900X CPU is indeed dead. He updated my BIOS for me and I got a 5900X as replacement. Case closed, and a couple of thousand Rand down the drain. :( At least I got a small upgrade out of it.

Your CPU socket had CUD. It knew it had to get rid of the povo 3900X before you would give it something better.

Yep, I guess I'm lucky that I could get a new upgrade without having to upgrade the whole shebang. If the 5900X wasn't still available or if it wasn't a drop in replacement I would have been in trouble.

If you get a chance maybe see if you can source a 5800X3D to swap out for as it is the best CPU the AM4 socket can support before needing to change platform

Agreed with the above, return or swap that 5900x.

Since you live in somerset area, if you can drop it at wootware I can pm you my whatsapp and test it for a day or so in different boards. Just a suggestion
