Hi there,

I have a Super Flower 850W modular power supply that I bought in early 2020.

I've been encountering seemingly random freezes and reboots recently and have narrowed it down to the power supply GPU cable. I put it aside with a "faulty" note attached and replaced the cable with a new one from the box, as my graphics card only uses a single power cable, and I haven't had anymore problems since.

Considering the random nature of the issue, it is worth sending in for RMA? I would be able to use my laptop whilst my PC is out of action.
I worry they turn around and tell me they can't find anything wrong and I look like an idiot, plus I will probably charged fees - according to the terms of conditions.

What should I do? I doubt I'll be using any of the other cables though. Should I just accept the issue and use the power supply until it dies one day or still report an RMA whilst it is still under warranty?

Any advise would be greatly appreciated!

Hi Op
If it's just the cable it's not worth the hassle of going through the whole rma process

I see the psu is a single rail psu, I would assume you used the same port with different cable?
If so then don't bother, upon you diag did you run any benchmarks and/or stress tests?

I recall the super flowers modular connectors are very tight... Could it be that the vga connectors were not plugged in properly prior to gpu cable swap? On psu and gpu side?

It may have been "over looked" upon your diags

I've seen many a "faulty" machine with the only issue something not being plugged in properly
In my time of doing pc repairs in the passed 10 odd years 8 of them running my own company
I suggest putting the machine through a torture test that will surely show any signs of an issue
If it all passes I would possibly invest in a new shiny cable set if the need arises or just cut your loses and don't bother with the rma.

Yea I used the same port with a different cable. I did check the connector before I swapping it out and it was fine. I also ran stress tests with the original and new cable connected and could not replicate the issue with either one.

The freezes were so random, I wouldn't even able to blame it on a specific application or malware. I could literally be doing anything. Sometimes it even happened when the PC was idle.

I think I will probably just cut my loses and keep the PSU. Holding thumbs, it hasn't let me down again.

Out of curiosity, is Super Flower a good brand overall? It's my first time using one. I had a Huntkey in my old rig but that wasn't anything special.

Touch wood it doesn't happen again, feel free to pm me...
Suoer flower is a known good brand and make some other brands of psu aswell
