It is with a heavy heart that I have decided to put my Datsun 1200 project car up for sale. Original A12 engine with 4 speed manual gearbox. Starts on the turn and drives great. New clutch cable installed recently.
Owned since late 2021. Mostly used as a weekend car but is reliable enough to be daily driven. That being said, there are still a few faults that need to be mentioned to potential buyers:
1) 2 spots where the paint is starting to bubble due to rust (1 on the driver's side rear fender and the other on the passenger side rear door - see pics).
2) Weather strips/seals around the triangular windows need to be replaced. Been quoted R550 for the pair.
Below is what I have done on the car since purchasing it:
1) Convert points and condenser distributor over to electronic distribution + replace ignition coil.
2) Fitted NGK BPR5EIX-11 iridium spark plugs and new leads.
3) Refurbished and fitted Weber 32/36 carburettor.
4) Replaced all suspension bushes with Nissan 1400 poly bushes.
5) Fitted new springs up front (lowered by Stableride) and added 50mm drop blocks on the rear leaf springs.
6) Swapped out original steering wheel (old wheel included in the sale) with a concave racing wheel as well as fitted steering wheel hub and quick release.
7) Replaced original headlights with LED variant
8) Fabricated and fitted branch exhaust manifold and full straight pipe exhaust with HKS replica back box (done by EDW Performance).
9) Sourced and refurbished period correct multi-spoke 12 inch rims - sprayed in a gold/bronze. Wheels are currently off the car but will be included in the sale.
Spares included with the sale:
1) Original Datsun steering wheel
2) Points and condenser distributor + 2 spare ignition coils
3) Indicator flasher unit
4) Original front springs
5) Spare rear leave spring U-bolts and bump stops
6) Original headlights
7) Spare quick release
8) No-name brand carburettor + intake setup with cone filter
9) Spare mini filter for tappet cover breather
10) Spare poly bushes
11) Replacement brake lines (hard and flexi)
12) Original exhaust manifold
All paperwork up to date and on hand. Have invoices for everything purchased for the car and all work carried out. Would make for a good restoration project or daily runaround.
R35000 or swap for a BMW E36 (323i, 325i or 328i).
