HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

So... I have the Apple Dongle. Cheap DAC/AMP that's not labeled as such. Brother brought the US version for me on his visit to ZA. It's... good? Very good?

Not like I have demanding headsets or anything, so for me, I guess this is fine? I thought quality was supposed to cost a lost of money?

Is this seriously the answer to anyone who has sucky motherboard sound (or wants to remove PC noise from Mic over Teams/Discord/Etc meetings) , and just wants something better that's good enough, with no frills?

I also know the EU (SA) version has half of the output power of the US version, but I have never gone over 40% in Win volume, so it would probably have been fine too.
Yip from what I've seen reported they're not bad at all as long as your headphones don't need too much power.

Have the Odyssey HD myself and that works a treat too although had to self import from China.

Not sure if this is the correct place to post.

Broke the 3.5mm jack on my DT 990 Pro's in half (Don't ask), so I thought this is good a time as any to do the cable mod on it.

Now there is plenty of stuff I can do brilliantly, but fine solder work is not one of them. Any idea where I can get this done?

Thanks

Hey folks,

I'm trying to source myself a Schiit Modi 3E. Has anyone had success importing Schiit products, and if so how? They don't seem to have us on their list of countries they ship to.

Wanting to introduce it to my SoundblasterX G6 (which I will hopefully change for something else not too far down the line) and Sennheiser HD560s

Use a forwarder like aramex global shopper, you get a address in the US which they inturn forward onto you.
Only caveat is you pay tax twice, US (as its shipped to a US address) and then when it lands in SA

its a total schlep right now - they dont want to warranty the stuff that arrives to SA even if you successfully drop ship it ..... risk if stuff arrives DOA is totally on you ...... Schitts policies are now matching their name ..... speak to Wolvebain - he tried corresponding with them and really got not much joy from them regarding them sending stuff to SA ...... best to ask him about his experiences and if the situation has changed since then

Bought a Sundara to replace my He4xx and love it.
Have been using it with my audiogd R2R11 and was great.
Tested with a zendac v2 and all I can say is WOW, the headphones came alive.
Absolutly love it,
Sundara + Zen = Nirvana
At least for now :)

if you don't mind me asking ....... what was better about the Zen DAC V2 compared to the AGD R2R11?

The sound is a bit clearer, seperation between instruments seems better.
The bass boost button absolutly rocks, it boosts the bass but doesnt sound like it messes with the other frequences.
Tried similar it with peace apo, but in hw its night a day different vs doing in SW, just sounds better

thanks for the reply - that helps a lot (y)

Yo dudes, hopefully someone here can offer me some advice.

I want to get a balanced cable for my Sennheiser 6XX(Hdsexxx) but they're pretty pricey on Amazon especially adding in import fees, even when using a forwarding service like MyUS, and the selection ain't too great.

Aliexpress have a ton more options but I'm too afraid to order with them as if I'm not mistaken their regular shipping has to go through SAPO, so chances are the package will either take years to arrive, or not arrive at all.

So what I'd like to do is put together my own balanced cable using a genuine Sennheiser spare HD 650 cable, which is available locally and simply lob off the 6.3mm plug and solder on a 4.4mm pentaconn plug.

However, I have no idea where to look locally to get hold of the 4.4mm plugs, no luck via the usual channels.. Would appreciate if anyone could point me in the right direction?

Guillaume will sort you out alright.

Yeah sadly Mr. G has left a hole in the custom cabling and connector market that will be difficult to fill.
But his company is still going. AcousticArts took over with help from his wife and family friend.
Email them at acouart@netactive.co.za and they might be able to sort you out :)

Also try contacting Max at . and see if maybe he has balanced 4.4mm Amphenol or Neutrik connectors.

Damn... Sucks to hear about Guillaume, my condolences. I assume his cables were top notch as that seems to be the general consensus. To all the peeps that are in possession of his custom cables, take care of em you lucky buggers! Thanks for all of the advice, I've reached out to the relevant peeps.

Hart Audio aren't totally ridiculous in terms of audiophile cable pricing, the shipping and taxes are the killer. Might be doing an order end of the month

Otherwise Amazon

Hi everyone, thought this might be the best section for it so here goes...

At the moment I've got an ancient Logitech 5.1 speaker system hooked up to my pc, problem is its a mess of wires so I'm looking for a simpler, cleaner install.
I do like the amount of sound and the bass so I wouldn't want to deviate from that too much, if I can describe it so crudely.

Options I've considered is to replace the above with say a Samsung 2.1 soundbar or powered bookshelf speakers.
I'm leaning towards the soundbar as I like the look of it and you still have the seperate sub, its not audiophile stuff but we'll get to that later.

Anyone have a similar setup with some insights or what is the preferred pc speaker setup?

Cheers!

I was until recently using a Cambridge Soundbar with wireless sub. Worked well but the added clutter to my desk bothered me, so i'm back to headphones only

I got the below on special for R4k, awesome sound! Can send you images if you like.

Got it connected VIA optical.

Cool was wondering how the soundbar would work with the PC.
I'm also itching for a pair of new headphones but in this case I specifically want to annoy the neighbours

At first I thought it would be too big, but actually fits nicely.

Sub is hiding by the window.

I'm a huge Edifier fan. I currently own 2 sets (1280t and 1080bt). One for PC and one for outside use.

I would highly recommend giving it a proper look as well.

@Chevez I've been giving them more than a passing glance as of late.
Those 2 models do pop up in the Speaker section every so often so I might grab one just for shits and giggles, the white / yellow 1080bt looks damn nice!

Does anyone any recommendations on a cheap external sound card. Started noticing some really annoying coil whine recently after getting these (Takealot). I currently have this one in mind - EPOS 1000201 GSX 300 External USB Sound Card - Wootware ,
It isn't cheap, but if it solves the problem whilst improving my experience (In games like Valorant, its like a Mosquito is stuck in your ear) I don't mine paying a premium.
