Bad News for Anyone Wanting ASUS RTX 30 Cards

Gigabyte RTX 3060 12G GAMING OC is now at R 15,699. Cost ex VAT is more than retail on the last one I sold. Up 23% in one week.

ASUS DUAL RTX 3060 12G is now R 15,799.

ASUS ROG STRIX RTX 3060 12G OC GAMING is now R 20,149.

Nee man fok man.

If you don't at least have a 1080 Ti then I would suggest you rather go for a ps5 or even a SeXbox for the next year or 2. Heck I would say sell your 1080 ti if you do have one and buy a console. Let these shortages sort themselves out, it's not like PC gaming is getting any noteworthy titles this year, and even if it does those same games releases on the consoles too. Your monitor will work fine on the console.

Currently PC gaming is a no go if you don't already have a built pc with a decent gpu. These prices are not worth it to upgrade so if you want to play modern games with good graphics (1440p+) go console.

Gee wiz. I paid less for my 3080.

Honest to god I actually forgot about the AMD offering, but I see even though they suck with mining they're also getting increases across the board. Last time I saw a 6900xt it was going for like R29,999 iirc. Those were going for like R21,500 in the beginning.

wow... so I got a STRIX 3080 OC for more or less the price of a 3060 just a few months ago... Scary shit this is.... Im glad I bought when I decided to do so... To think I initially wanted to wait till March before i bought everything... what a tradegy that would have been....

Still a good card for 1080P gaming. But at what it will cost as a new card in this climate it's certainly not going to be worth the price though.

I paid a 4K premium, looks like that premium is now over 10K

Yep so glad I picked up mine 2 weeks before the price started going up for like R22500 for the MERC319 Black model.
2 weeks later and it was R1k higher, then fast forward 2 months and we are at about 30k.

Yea looking sideways at the RX580 4gb here...

Where?

Consoles are going to get the same shortages and price increases - best you grab one second hand ASAP.
Not yet if ever though, a console increasing in price thanks to stock would be a first. Phil would rip into Sony and vice versa should one of em decide to increase prices now. It's not the same kind of market especially since mining plays no role there.

And luckily consoles are AMD which are not the best miners these days in anycase. Everyone is hit by the chip shortage but I believe console is still safe from price increases, I would be very surprised if I'm wrong though.

Regarding stock, if someone wants one they should just monitor the availability forums like on SaGamer, I could've had well over 20 ps5 by now. They always post when a retailer has stock.

I really wish people would stop blaming mining as if it's the only factor to affect shortages.

A few years ago when mining was massive (at it's previous peak) there was no problem sourcing 150+ cards in a single order. No lead times either, stock available same day. There are MANY MORE FACTORS AT PLAY.

The problem was there before the mining craze hit again as you say thanks to many factors, but it definitely made the problem 10 times worse now.

10x worse would imply that it accounts for 90% of the shortage. It's far, far far, less than that.

If mining had a perceivable impact we wouldn't be seeing shortages of desktop CPUs, RAM, cases (yes, cases - some Antec cases have an ETA of late 2022), consoles, etc.

We have car and fridge manufacturers crying about the shortages, there's no way you can blame that on mining.

10x is definitely a exaggeration lol :ROFLMAO: but I think it can be said that the prices wouldn't have been such an issue so quickly if not for mining. Stock was always kak on the new gpus from the start as we all experienced. But the prices were quite steady, they didn't really increase for a couple of months. It was R18 - R22k across the board depending on which 3080 model. Suddenly BTC sky rocketed, and people realized wow the 3080 is a mining power house. Then boom prices got fucked.

You've seen the scary mining farms out there especially in countries like China. I'm willing to bet if not for BTC/Ether, a 3080 would've been like 22k still today. Mining just accelerated the situation.

The semiconductor industry never really got a chance to catch up after the covid shutdown. Add to the fact that TSMC 7nm is so damn popular (I wonder if Ampere would've caused even more kak across the industry if it was TSMC 7nm too) and you got a perfect fuckup across multiple industries.

So many people don’t know the difference between needing or wanting a product. It blows my mind how much people are forking out for cards at the moment. I am lucky enough to buy any component I like but I refuse to be ripped off.

I just don’t get why people locally and globally wake up and hold off on purchasing GPU’s until the manufacturers are forced to lower the price.

Nobody needs a 3000 GPU they want it. Unless you really need a GPU for work purposes there is no reason to buy or upgrade to any GPU

Well that means we will possibly see cheape ASUS products hit the second hand market if people are forced into buying stuff they dont need.

I hope they have a ton of headphones laying around lol

Currently PC gaming is a no go if you didn't buy a Ampere during launch imo. These prices are not worth it.
So the old cards just stopped working coz of the pricing on the new cards?
AUJ in your brain

There's probably no real way to quantify just how much of an impact mining has had on prices. But there is a reason why its so convenient to point that finger. Covid, tradewars, drought, and a surge in demand like we've never seen before. Sure. As you implied, collectively these factors have impacted the price and supply of just about every piece of pc hardware. Everything is harder to come by and everything is more expensive. But lets be fair here. CPU's don't cost double what they did 2 months ago. And I can actually still go and buy one if I wanted to. But GPUs? Bliksem. Why is that?

Look at the international market. Ryzen 5000 is a unicorn. They're often selling for far above MSRP.
- What miner is using a Ryzen 5000 series CPU?

Locally, Intel 11th gen is a unicorn. SA's next shipment is only due in 2021Q3.
- What miner is using a Rocket Lake CPU?

Z590 boards are somewhat of a unicorn. Stock levels are in the single digits (or zero) for pretty much all available SKUs.
- What miner is using a Z590 board?

Some Antec cases such as the NX1000 have an ETA of more than a year.
- What miner uses a fairly entry level gaming case?

RAM is up almost 50% from six months ago. I had 16 GB kits of Corsair DDR4-3200 listed for a touch over R 1,300 in December, those same kits are now R 1,955.
- What miner uses 16 GB of fairly high speed RAM?

GeForce GT 1030s are out of stock with no ETA.
- What miner uses entry level 2 GB cards?

Game has no stock of the PS5. Makro and BT Games no longer even list it.
- What miner is using a PS5?

ASUS gaming monitors are almost all out of stock.
- What miner uses a 27" 165 Hz display?

Ubiquiti stock levels are the lowest I've seen them in the +/- year I've been keeping tabs.
- What miner is using a Security Gateway and Cloud Key II for their network?

The list is endless. The price increases are endless. The shortages are endless.

Next up on the bitcoin thread... how to mine using your samsung smart fridge :p

You're preaching to the choir here. But since you took already took the liberty allow me to play devils advocate.
I really have no beef with mining. I call it like I see it. An opportunity to earn something. And since we're talking about things that are in short supply. Opportunities to earn an income, is probably at the top of that list. But make no mistake. We're talking about a tool that can generate profit. And to conflate the impact current affairs have had upon gpu's with the impact its had on everything else just sounds like whataboutism. Remember. I'm not blaming miners either. To blame miners for 100% of the mess we're in is juvenile and non-sensical. But in the same breath. To list a few bullet points as to why miners should be absolved is also misleading. I would agree that miners don't deserve the amount of flak they get for all this kak. But that doesn't mean that they shouldn't shoulder a degree of responsibility here either.
