Using whatsapp web on my 21+ is AIDS.

If my phone screen is off, my whatsapp web always disconnects. If I turn my screen on (not even to unlock the phone), then my whatsapp web will reconnect.

I assumed it was some Android battery optimization so I have now set whatsapp to be a "never sleep" app...but that seems to have done bugger all. App still disconnects and I need to turn on my phone display to use whatsapp web...kind of defeats the whole point of whatsapp web.

Anyone have any ideas or fixes? Looked on the web and almost everyone says to just turn whatsapp off of sleeping mode or whatever but that hasn't helped me.

Does it have settings for background data usage perhaps?
Only other thing I can think of.

does this happen when your phone is on wifi ?

see if it happens on mobile data

Make sure to enable it as a background app, or enable background data for it. I forget the setting on Android but there's a section for that.

Can't seem to find a restrict data usage setting. I can find a general data cap setting, but not on a per app basis. Anyone know where it is?

Maybe check for any software updates for the phone and apps. Possibly it's a bug that's been patched.

Nah, background data usage for whatsapp is on, but I am still not getting through every time my phone screen is off. F.

Have done this with everything. Am not even using the official whatsapp web app. Am using WhatsappWebToGo so I can use it as a native app on my tablet. Still gives me the same issues through a browser though. Everything is up to date.

Are you using a Samsung device?

#edit argh, I see 21+
I'm also on Samsung, and have the same issues.
I wonder if it's actually turning off our wi-fi to save power or something like that.

Despite the fact that I have the same issue on wifi, I hardly ever use wifi on my phone. Almost always mobile data. But yes, something is the issue. No idea though...I used to own the Note 9 and I didn't ever have this issue with my Note. Would happily dump my Note in other rooms or just straight leave it at home sometimes when working and it was fine. Could always connect.

But now, wtf. Having to have my phone right next to me to turn the phone on constantly is the literal antithesis to the whole point behind the whatsapp desktop app. FFS.

It's done that since Whatsapp for Web was released for me - I've had 3 phones in that time, and so has my wife. Had ADSL before, have fibre now, and mobile data/wifi doesn't matter.

I've already googled the crap out of it, nothing completely resolves it, although some days are better than others.

Welp...guess I got to get an iPhone then... :ROFLMAO:

I found that even though my Whatsapp was set with allow background yada yada's, it was active under "Optimise batttery usage".

I went to app info> battery usage> Optimise Battery Usage. Now I've set it under the apps not optimised. I don't know if you've changed that, but I'll give you some feedback later today if I also notice any more disconnects today.

Get a shittier phone produced by a shittier company to fix one issue?

As said you gotta make sure that whatsapp is allowed to run in the background when phone is locked and that it doesn't get stopped automatically.
Yay for Android 11...

Check Android display settings, Whatsapp should be allowed to show notifications on Lock Screen.

All these little issues I keep finding with the S21+ (I get this issue isn't necessarily because it's an S21+) make me miss my Note 9 so much. Height of Samsung's design for me personally. IMHO
