HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

Thanks for your reply @naughty

Just to give context, will be used for cycling during my commutes and Zwift (indoor training) as well as general music listening via Spotify.

Hmmm... You need something in ear that you can still hear your surroundings... Most decent IEMs would provide way too much noise isolation for your use case friend.

Do you own a pari of those samsung buds now?

The cool thing is that you can enable the 'Ambient Noise' setting via the app so that you can still hear your surroundings which are pretty epic.

No, I do not. Unfortunately, I have read that connectivity is a bit of an issue if you are not using an S10 (or Samsung device). So that is a huge dealbreaker for me as I will be using a Xiaomi phone.

that app is probably dedicated for specific phones that the earbuds come with

i use a Xiaomi phone (Pocophone F1) and im pretty happy with the KZ ZSN pro for general mobile music via the phone (i have a few DACs that i can carry around too) but it's still good enough direct from the phone and it isnt too expensive ie under R500 - and its good enough for music "on the go" which isn't the same thing as sitting on your lounge suite and doing some serious listening (you should have other better playback equipment for that)

there are probably other equally cheap and equally good earphones like the Tin T2/T3 or some of the lower Fiio's that you could get or import but i doubt that those will allow you to hear much ambient surrounding sound .... the cheaper ones like the AKG Y20 or even the Senheiser CX300ii could also do but the KZs to me beat those by some margin

a friend of mine managed to score a set of those Samsungs for R100 from someone who wasn't going to use them at all and i compared them to the AKG Y20s and the Y20s were actually better ..... which still doesn't mean that you will like either - i liked the AKG until i tried the KZ because i got the AKG for cheap but they can't be compared

Thanks for your detailed reply.

Look I am using the Wear app on my Xiaomi Redmi 4X and works flawlessly with my Gear S2 Sport. Very interesting points regarding the sound quality of the Buds compared to other cheaper options.

Is those KZ ZSN Pro sweat resistant? And where did you buy them from?

True, I will be using it to listen to my playlist on Spotify and when I am at home I use the Creative Sound BlasterX H5. Very happy with them, I use them for casual gaming, YouTube and music.

Wow, that's a bargain! R100 for Galaxy Buds - get out of here.

Guess I will still need to do some homework on my side. The Jaybird X3 looks like an option as well.

Oops, I think I quoted the wrong post :)
Meant to ask @Ninja_Theory if he used a shipping agent to join the Drop because Drop doesn't ship here.
I created an AGS account in my wife’s name. I’ve used my 3 imports for the year. I also ordered a little BT Aptx-HD Rx Tx unit from Shenzhen (China, free shipping) on my name, to test what happens when import number 4 comes knocking on SARS door.

Link please?

I should have clarified, the link to the Bt transmitter. But thanks for the Shenzen link. Will peruse the site.

Sorry I bought it from AliExpress, not Shenzhen. Just checked all my AliExpress accounts and the order isn't showing o_O but the R313 came off my account last night. Pretty sure it was this one though. I'm a little concerned it's not showing as an order. Will look into it tomorrow.

That Shenzen site is damn expensive though. Just looking at the Sennheiser hd500 series vs amazon pricing.

It's a mixed bag of prices, generally market related prices.. generally. I've only read many good things about their service.

Found my order on the mobile app. The link above is the unit I ordered.

We are awaiting STAX feedback...
Dang I forgot. Was upp till after 1 am listening..
Here's what I posted on an audio group:

Clarity is out of this world!
Seperation is out of this world!
I think it may also be the size of the drivers but it literally feels like different instrument sounds are hitting me from different angles
Soundstage is 👌
I literally started laughing from surprise with the start of amber rubarth- strive
It's amazing dammit, just frigging AMAZING!
I've not heard many sounds from many headphones, but this is hands down the best wow moment I've experienced wrt this specific rabbit hole 😁

apologies for the lack of true Audiphile terms and phrases, still a very wet behind the ears noobie in this field..

All you need to do is make sure you always refer to your Stax as Earspeakers, don't ever, ever, refer to them as headphones or even worse, earphones.

Hehe noted thanks! And I did not mention anything about the physical attributes as we all have seen the reviews on those and pretty sonstant. Plastic/cheapish feel, ligh and earpads uncomfortable. (I have 0 issues with the earpads and imo really comfortable), the condition the Earspeakers are in, (looks brand spanking new) I also don't mind the plastic in any way. After all, they're on my head doing what they are meant for, definitely not a fashion statement.

Isn't it advised/better to hang your earphones earspeakers on the headband, instead of the comfort strap?

Off topic, can anyone on here who've used Hertz audio in their car before DM me please? Have 1 or 2 questions... Cheers!
I had the Hertz high-energy splits and sub once upon a time. I think I sold it on here or the system shock forum's back in 2008. Not sure I could answer any questions but can say they were among the best at the time, and heavy.

Salutations!

I popped this up in Smack Talk, and was duly sent here!

Given the R3.5k price, and my not being that fussy on noise-cancelling, are these decent Sennheiser Momentum 2.0's enough earphones given what I paid for them?
Suffice it to say that this is my first 'dipping of the toes' into anything beyond 'cheap and nasty', in regards to earphones.

By comparison – I have some JBL earbuds, and Apple Airpods (bought for their absolute convenience, not sound!) – but nothing half-decent in terms of over-ear tins.

Will I get enough enjoyment from these? Anyone have a pair, or had a listen to them before?

Oh – and what is the story on the batteries in these wireless versions?
Do they last long before being replaced? Can they be replaced?

Don't try and justify whether the purchase was worth it - If you are enjoying your music in ways you haven't before, the purchase was worth it. Sure there will be better deals somewhere else another day. But if/until that happens, you have had the pleasure of enjoying your new gear longer than other people buying it on that day.

Haven't heard these before but have heard a few closed back wireless sets before.

What type of sound signature are you looking for? What music do you listen to? Do feel you need more bass or trebble? Do they sound like someone has put a plastic bag over your head?

I'd put a bet on that the battery would last way longer than the time it takes you to buy new headphones if you start venturing into this happy. But a quick reddit search seems to suggest you can replace them.

Appreciate the reply.

All valid points – let's just say that I'm hoping it will sound better than a plastic bag over my head!
Thanks for the info on the batteries – that is good to hear [har-har].

Regardless, guess the proof will be in the listening. Will pop up something when they have arrived.
The quick scan I have done of some reviews, seem to suggest that were I to be paying R7k, then my choice would have been far more questionable – but at this price, I've probably done OK.
And OK is all I need!
