Any Cayman drivers here?

adamr found something I'm going to try and stretch the budget for.

At that price I can wait a few months longer if I can find another one in the same price range by that time

Clicky for pure sexyness

Honestly, avoid.
10 year old super car...You're going to end up bankrupting yourself bud.

Have you owned a pre owned R8 yet? Not really a "supercar" anymore. Audi services are expensive so take that into consideration. Mechanically it is still German. Good luck and have fun.

Yeah the V8 is an rs4 from 2006 ... Same motor transmission etc. The v10 is the one to get though. That's a slightly detuned lp560 ... R10k in 2012 would have removed the SW limit to get the full lp560 power. But v10 maintenance is going to be mad expensive. Hope you don't intend dailying the car

They're expensive to maintain, They're expensive to insure and they're costly to run.
Also it's 10 years old, a fairly rare car. Replacement panels and parts are not going to be easy to come by.

Let's not even get into the interior, which is ancient by today's standards.

Not nearly as good looking but more power and in warranty.

The insurance on a R8 is going to kill you, and as everyone mentioned you can't daily it, so I hope you find that R700K payment for something you can drive lets say once maybe twice a week worth it?
Personally I would rather get this : https://www.autotrader.co.za/used-c...3Jkcy8zMzUvcGFnZS8yL3NlYXJjaA&result-index=19

And use the left over cash as a deposit on a house/flat, you know, something that appreciates in value :p

New Toyota Supra / BMW Z5 might be available for order this time of year next year, but I'm guessing the price will be quite a shoot upwards.

Personally, I'd love to upgrade to a Cayman or 911 in the (FAR) future, but I'm very content with my 86 right now. For that money you could totally pick up a 2nd hand one and mod the hell out of it to give really great performance, but that's certainly not everyone's cup of tea.
adamr I dig that you've been through so many cars, kinda inspiring.

Not going with the R8, I have been convinced not to LOL.

A 335i? Nah I have a 330D. I don't want something only slightly nicer.

Will most likely end up going with the Cayman.

Then i'd also give the Mitsubishi Evolution a try. Best daily in the world. Preferred it over the Series 6 RX-7

Like finding Nemo in desert

You can't daily a Porsche mate....
Or well if you live like 1KM away from the office sure.

That's what they said when I bought my WRX, but hey why buy it if you're not going to spend a decent amount of time in it :emmersed:

a WRX you can daily for sure, but the whole concept of a car that is great to drive and appreciates in value (or at least stays steady) like the Cayman is that the millage is kept to a minimum.

I hear you, but I think it's also down to an individuals perspective, if someone has 6 high end cars, and buys a Porsche cash, then fair enough use it on the weekends or whatever. But I agree that if you're spending +- R600k on a vehicle and seeing that R10k come out of your account every month, you want to feel like it's worth it?

Most people that I know that have a nice sports car will always have a nice daily car that is always more comfortable, cheaper to maintain and just use for day to day tasks.

This ensures that the nice car doesn't get any unnecessary millage and it works out a lot cheaper in your budget too, but if you have that feeling of Jeeez I pay the bank R10K+ PM amount per month for this car, I have to use it,
then I have bad news for you, you probably shouldn't have bought it, having a second car, and especially in this case when its a car in the R500K+ range should be bought with a major deposit and in all it shouldn't take up more than 15% of your monthly disposable income, if it does, regardless of what the bank says you can't afford it, move on, if it doesn't good for you, you are being responsible and go and collect your car

Yeah but you shouldn’t do prostitutes at all. Cheap or expensive

I used cheap as a reference so as to really drive my point home (no pun intended) but yeah don't do prostitutes, stay in school don't do drugs kids.

Yeah if you happy with dailying the car by all means. It's yours to do as you please. Just be weary that you will depreciate that car like a mofo as there will be plenty other examples with much lower mileage. I personally have never dailyed an exotic.... Always treated them like investments and always had a daily. And people that I know of with exotics also do not daily them ...

Perfect example ... Take a 1m Bmw. If you have under 15000km you can ask your R1million ... But if say you have 60000km that's a 650k car. And 60000km ain't allot for a 2011 /2012 car. But if it is seen as collectible ... 60 000km is allot for that year model

Other things to note ...
A clutch on a Porsche is something that always gets replaced more often than your average car. And not small money ... So if you gonna daily chances are you will be replacing that clutch often too ... It's an accepted "thing" owning a Porsche to replace the clutch ... ask about the clutch before buying

Generally speaking Porsche have specialist insurers... Which is based on max mileages etc. So insurance can be pricey if you opt for unlimited mileage. Most common short term insurers will not insure a Porsche ... Remember that.

What I'm saying in a nutshell is do your homework properly on this type of car before buying.

I would just buy an Impreza WRX STi and tune it. It's fast, reliable, much cheaper to service and full of giggles at 4.9sec on 0-100.

I am busy saving up now for my second "fun" car, nothing nearly as exotic as a Porsche, hell I am not even looking at something from this millennium :p
Once I have my cash saved up I will start looking for a nice non-rust bucket Nissan 200SX preferably one where someone already threw out the CA18 and put in a SR20 motor.

It will be bucket loads of fun, on the cheap, and if it breaks and has to stand in the garage for a few months who cares, I have 2 other cars that can get me to work, and the best of all, it going to be done cash, no installments at the bank, if I only use it once a month it won't even bother me.

STI isn't worth it IMO, unless used on the track regularly. Almost every WRX/STI review will tell you the same, for street driving, a WRX is more than fun enough, hell I can't even drive to the shop without getting out with a huge dorky smile on my face, and I've had it now for 6 months.

The 4 cylinder turbo or the proper flat 6?

You two are full of kark. I don't understand this logic you guys have and many people have it as well.
I have always bought anything and everything I have with the intention of using it. If I had the money to buy a Ferrari F12 and I could afford to maintain the thing if I drive it every day then bloody hell I will drive it every damn day else I would not buy it.
If you are a collector and have a two story garage with collectible cars then I can understand but buying a car as an investment and to expect some sort of return on it is madness in my mind. I know it's a bit more complicated as some cars depreciate to absolutely nothing and some cars will depreciate less based on brand and all.

Maybe it's just my way of living but it doesn't make 100% sense to me that people would buy the vehicle that really like and enjoy and then avoid riding it because they won't be able to sell it for RX amount. If that amount is not worth the time spent driving the vehicle then I don't think you should of bought it in the first place.

Define "ride" [emoji14]

I'm playing at Zwartkops on the skid pan with my wife in the 86 this Sunday, feel free to drop by - passages don't pay.

I would have jumped 10 meters to do this, seriously.
I have wedding things to sort out. Need to be at the venue by 9am.

Maybe I should postpone my wedding so I can come? xD
My fiance would kill me... lol.
