Need For Speed Unbound

Yikes! I duno hey.
Is this what console players play?

Hopefully it's just the promo vid they decided to have fun with.

Why didnt they just remake or remaster the underground series? or they could have just copied underground two and update visuels and new story...

This cartoonish shit is a definit no for me. The game will fail big time.

Any remake they do won't live up to our expectations so it's better they don't

Really enjoying the game so far. It's actually really decent, just had a few bugs already. Doing a gameplay series on my YouTube channel.

Playing on PS5. It's fun but it has a lot of shortcomings.

With regards to gameplay :
- Pretty difficult even on the lowest. I play Forza Horizon 5 on "Above Average" and it's ok. Here I'm having to concentrate really hard just on the lowest difficulty.
- Lacking difficulty tuning (only 3 presets).
- No controller button remapping (and not even more than 1 preset). Wut.
- Racing turns into a drafting fest very quickly. You go faster if you draft and you can only earn nitrous by drafting, driving on the wrong side of the road, drifting or doing a perfect grip racing line through the corner.
- Cars feel very twitchy.
- Hard to make money - 10 hours in and got one car that's A+ level. Even GT7 isn't this stingy.
- Lack of rewinds like Forza/F1. So annoying as the difficulty is so high that one crash and it's very difficult to catch up.
- Every time you go to the garage it advances time. Annoying as some races need a B car while some need an A or A+, which means you can only race the ones for the car you chose for that session because you can't go change car and comeback without time advancing and new races coming up.

- I've never noticed much swearing in NFS games before, but oh boy do they swear a lot in the soundtrack for this one. Can't recall pussy ever being said so many times.
- If you hate modern rap you will have to turn off the soundtrack and put some Spotify on in the background lol.

- Politically correct stuff sprinkled in too. Like a lesbian cop on the radio saying she can't wait to get home to her wife and kids, picking up a trans woman influencer and having our character say they love her blog and she's so inspiring. Also enough devs to put in 10+ pride flag decals but forget about the basic stuff I mentioned above.

Having fun but it could've been a lot better.

Honestly the difficulty is not THAT bad. I think the game is just trying to convey that you cannot always be in first place which is why there is cash rewards by placement. Can't win them all like they say.

You can swap rides in game so you can have a A class and B class car to do all the events in a day once you have enough money to have a car in each class, so you do not have to advance time by going to the garage.

I don't mind the swearing as much. I'm not one for hip-hop and since I upload my vids the music is mostly off to avoid copyright notices so I didn't really notice that much. I'm cool with the in-game swearing though. This game really coneys what the street racing scene was like in the 2000's so yeah it's cool.

As far as politically correct stuff goes, I just ignore it because it's everywhere these days. Paying it any mind will drive you loopy. Luckily the game does not force it down your gullet and makes up for it with all the anti-politically correct stuff.

Best game they have made since Underground 2 TBH. It's even better than the OG Most Wanted.

Forza horizon games are just too easy in my opinion. To the point where it's basically like awarding a kid for participating in school sports instead of placing in the top 3.

Sure but if a 4 minute race is only 6000 credits and requires a buy in of 2000, finishing 4th will barely make you money. I think you'll make maybe 1500 credits. So almost 12 minutes for finishing 4th just to buy a basic air filter upgrade for one car. Winning is the only way to make decent progress.

Didn't even know that. They didn't even give me a popup saying you can.

So in the 2000s you were really pulling up to the meet with this TikTok music :ROFLMAO:

Strongly disagree. It's better than Heat/Payback/Rivals, on par with NFS 2015 but it's not quite Carbon/MW/Underground.

And the story is not even that original, it feels like you get betrayed in every game lol.

I'm definitely not paying for this based on how horrible the voice acting is alone. It's so bad it's almost comical. Also $70 is way too much for a game these days, I'm a poor dirt farmer after all. Although some of the unexpected jokes are decent, the story-telling seems to be as bad as FH5 where they basically treat you like a toddler, but that's a whole shit fest of a game.... FH5 couldn't even get the colour yellow right.

I'll be interested in the difficulty because I found FH4/5 to be a cake-walk at pro so if it's truly harder that'll be neat I guess? I'll probably play it for like 4-5 hours to just mess around and then uninstall it though.

Also them spending money on a rapper and not getting Toyota is peak EA.

Also for NFS;
U2 = MW > Carbon > U1 > Rest

What difficulty are you playing on? I mostly finish first. A few second or third places here and there if I mess up. Are you perhaps drifting when going around corners too much? If you keep doing that it slows you down quite a lot. It may boost the nos recharge but it's not worth the cost of losing speed.

Didn't even know that. They didn't even give me a popup saying you can.
When you're at a meet the option to swap cars is right next to events so kinda hard to miss. It only shows up if you have more than 1 ride though. It also swaps cars automatically when choosing a B class event while in an A class car for example.

I wouldn't go as far as calling the soundtrack tiktok music. It's just hip-hop. Kinda what underground hip-hop has been for how long. It was just never commercialized as it is now since all these xanax rappers popped up  I've been to lots of street racing events in JHB and contrary to what movies will have you believe, it's not all rock and metal or EDM.

And the story is not even that original, it feels like you get betrayed in every game lol.
Kinda 99% of racing game stories and racing movie stories right there. Not much else you can do with the genre you know. God forbid they turn NFS into a modern-day Fast and the Furious / James Bond wannabe with cars flying to space. The game embodies underground car culture and street racing more than anything since NFS Underground 2 and that's what it's about.

What I have learnt is everyone will always find something to bitch over, ESPECIALLY "gamers". Can't please 'em all. In general the game seems really well received and I personally love it. It could have been a hell of a lot worse since it is Criterion behind it. I'm just glad they didn't fuck it up and actually made a good modern NFS game that resembles the old as closely as they can without an actual remake of the old.

With respect, there are many other kinds of storylines to choose from. Perhaps the player is an plain-clothes cop that betrays instead of being betrayed (à la NFS Undercover to F&F 1). Maybe the player is a down-and-out ex-con working for a street-racing boss and he vies with the boss to take control of the crew. The player could even be the right-hand man of a street-racing boss whose crew is under threat from a rival crew who has the support of a corrupt politician/cop.

There's even the GTA 4-type storyline of starting out at the bottom and becoming only mildly successful by the end of the game instead of becoming the dude who controls the city/street-racing scene.

There are plenty of options.

My feedback from the 2hours+- I've spent in the game

1) The rubber banding feels insane at times ? Can be 200m in front and maintaining distance, next moment the audio plays of the someone saying "not taking my money" then he/she/it/the pan overtakes like I'm busy looking for parking and I have to start over. Has happened a few times, some races I ran out of restarts and that was annoying AF - Makes it feel scripted.
2) For some reason its taxing my PC to hell and back, its drawing so much power it has set off the over-current protection on my UPS a few times - Had to turn the eye candy down to medium to get the warning lights to go away.

But is it fun?

Many new car games was released over the years

But nothing I ever played made my heart to race as fast as this old game

Just though I'd throw in my 2 cents here:

After playing the game for a week I think this is probably the best NFS we've seen since Carbon. and while I don't agree with the class thing (I really just want to max all my cars and have fun) it does add an extra challenge that a lot of players complained about. The art style is really unique and adds character to the game and I think it adds more to the game than it removes by being "annoying". They did say that they would let you turn off the weird effects for the cars in game, they didn't come through with it but after a while you get used to them and they're fine. Yeah the characters are a little dry but for once your character talks which is a nice change, they did it averagely but hey, it's passable.

EA and Criterion have made a really good game, it's challenging and unforgiving but that's kinda the point they were going for. No not everyone likes a challenge and I really do see that once the story is over there will be little to no replayability as the way the story works means you'll be in the same cars at each point (Although I doubt the game will give me my Ferrari for free again (Explained below)) But what they did add is more customization in the way of bumper deletes, a feature to buy a full body kit without having to remember what brand of wing mirror you purchased last time and the NOS reward for grip turns is nice because now not drifting is way more viable than before. (Brake, take the corner and then burst back up to full speed)

Is this the best game that EA have made? No. But I think this is a step in the right direction.

The game is a lot easier if you tune your "Whip" as the young kids call it.

But seriously if you turn the downforce slider to high downforce it will remove performance points, usually enough to add another part that will make your car an absolute demon in races without a long straight (So just avoid the races marked "Speed"). Same goes for the Grip - Drift slider, you can update that to match your style and the performance number can change you you can use that to max your class (Keep everything 1 point below the next class up)

Money is hard to come by so spending as little as possible is kinda important. So make sure you avoid NOS and Tyre upgrades, they don't add any noticeable performance but DO affect the performance number and that's upgrade space you're leaving on the table for either tuning or an engine upgrade. The only non performance part to upgrade is the diff, that way you can customize more on the fly and it will help with the next part of suggestions:

If you can't win money or are struggling to make that extra 2K to upgrade to win your next races then do the collectables/activities, the drift ones are the easiest to do and you'll get ~500 per star, that and the billboards and other collectables are 250 each with the added bonus that if you find all the street art the game will give you a Ferrari 488 GTB FOR FREE.

Also I'd focus on upgrading and just getting past the 1st qualifier as quickly as possible, money gets a lot easier to come by after that and you'll get more of those night challenges that give a lot of extra cash (They're up to 15K before the end of week 3)

I played about 1 hour on the free trial hoping that they fixed the driving mechanics, Sadly it still farking sucks.
