As many/most of you are aware, you can insure second hand goods with couriers, but when it comes to paying out they won't, as their insurance doesn't cover used goods. The charge is normally between 2% and 2.5% ex VAT (2.5% and 2.875% including VAT), but keep in mind that this is throwing money away as their policies generally explicitly exclude payout for used goods. By selecting insurance, you're agreeing to their terms, so basically agreeing that the goods are not prohibited from insurance (i.e. new). As an example, TCG:
When making a claim, they request the invoice from the selling store dated no older than 7 days from date of dispatch. Without this, the claim is denied.
Would you be interested in having goods in transit insurance for such items? We're in the position to potentially offer this. The caveat is that it would have to go with our couriers. We will charge what they charge rounded to the nearest R 1, as well as the insurance amount.
Nothing is set in stone, and this might not happen at all, but it could be a nice service to offer.
